Players praise Head as Code's engaging mystery story with well-planned twists and an excellent ending that avoids plot holes, drawing comparisons to Zero Escape with its branching narrative structure and tense atmosphere. However, common complaints include weak escape room puzzles that lack interactivity, amateurish writing with jokes that miss and awkward phrasing, and underdeveloped character sprites, though many appreciate how characters grow on you despite initial impressions. The game is recognized as a passionate low-budget project that delivers compelling storytelling despite its produc

A really interesting mystery visual novel heavily inspired by Zero Escape and some other mystery VN's. Some elements of the game feel a little amateurish, with jokes that don't really land and some awkward phrasing, as well as puzzles that basically solve themselves rather than being truly interactive. But the story is well planned out and I couldn't wait to see what crazy thing would happen next. It's a very low budget title, but the passion of the dev shines through, and i lost track of time playing- I'm excited to explore the next game in the series soon. I wasn't sure about the characters starting out, but they grew on me and there were plenty of fun twists and turns, and yes, fatalities. The game uses a flowchart system with many different routes, and as you'd imagine, you need clues from each of them to solve the whole mystery and finish the game. Everything is tracked very well so it's easy to see what you haven't yet completed, and it all autosaves, so you can never lose progress. Strong recommendation for anyone who enjoys Zero Escape, Danganronpa, and mystery visual novels in general.

Edit: (Post 100% completion, no spoilers review) This game has one of the best stories, and easily the best ending of any visual novel that I've played. I didn't count a single plot-hole, either The atmosphere and music often had me feeling tense, and anticipating what would happen next. I guessed some of the twists, but many took me by surprise I also grew to really like the main character. Which I wasn't expecting Oh, and I would look forward to whenever there was a CG. They added onto the game's personality There are a few flaws: - Some of the characters' sprites are off-putting (but much better than the beta!) - Some characters don't get enough development (this is explained by the true ending) - There are many abrupt endings (also explained by the true ending) For a game that I at first reluctantly played so I could get to the other games in the series, it surpassed my expectations and I'm really glad that I gave it a go

Preparing myself for a Decide 4 God playthrough (I was turbo-broke for some time, so only got it recently), I decided to revisit the older games when I realized that... I hadn't actually played the whole way through HASC's remake. I played the original version a long time ago, and I did START the remake before, but then I stepped away and I guess my memories of the original version later tricked me into thinking I did finish the remake... how silly of me! Anyway, I have finished it now, and DAMN is everything tightened up. The writing has been tightened up, all the pseudoscience elements feel more relevant, suspense is more suspenseful, events are punchier, the graphics have been way upgraded, but honestly I think Alec Shea's soundtrack might be an even bigger upgrade than the graphics -- it is MERCILESSLY spot on. Some tracks are plain terrifying. As for the overall quality, I might try to edit this into a better review later (if I ever get around to that), but suffice to say, I knew the general gist of it already, and yet the specifics (especially in their re-tightened form) grabbed me again. Total obsession, spread over the course of about 1.5 days total. …

Head AS Code, developed and published by Miracle Moon, is a psychological mystery visual novel that builds its identity around tension, branching storytelling, and a constant sense of uncertainty. Acting as the opening chapter of the ABiMe series, it introduces players to a confined, high-stakes scenario where a group of strangers awakens in an underground subway system with no clear explanation of how they arrived. The situation quickly escalates into a deadly “Dating Game,” where survival depends on forming connections, making difficult choices, and navigating a web of hidden motives. From the outset, the game establishes a tone of unease, where every interaction feels layered with potential deception. The narrative is the core of the experience, structured around multiple branching paths that encourage repeated playthroughs. Rather than offering a single linear storyline, the game presents a network of possible outcomes shaped by player decisions. Each route reveals new information, gradually building a broader understanding of the situation and the characters involved. This design creates a sense of discovery that extends beyond a single playthrough, as players are motivated t…
