Key Features
- A branching narrative that changes depending on how you decide to play. Do you choose to be bold and stand up for the downtrodden, or would pleasing the elite be the safer and smarter choice?
- Uncover all of the secrets aboard the merchant clipper Herald, as you explore its many nooks and crannies.
- The Herald is a microcosm of 19th century society. The crew and passengers all have their own dark secrets and often use sly coercion to convince Devan to help them. But who can you trust?
- Herald's diverse cast of characters is brought to life by beautifully animated portraits, and the performances of thirteen talented voice actors.
- Herald is set during an alternate 1857 in which the West has been united as a single global superpower: the Protectorate. Governed not by kings but by an elected 'Lord Protector’, the Protectorians believe they are morally superior. But are they?
- A gripping tale about finding your place in a world divided by race, class and culture.

Unfinished and obviously never going to be finished (the only "recent" news was from 2 years ago....for a game released 7 years ago). For a story game, this is unacceptable. Don't waste your money. EDIT: The game dev wound up releasing the game years later than when I had played it. My negative review still stands, because you took so long that I no longer remember the plot enough to continue. A waste of my time and money, truly.6 found this helpful
It's been 84 years, but we're finally getting the complete edition, in two days!! I couldn't be more excited. Brilliant storytelling, gorgeous art and voice acting. I can tell it's made by theatre kids <33 found this helpful
Herald: An Interactive Period Drama - Book I & II is an older LGBTQ+ friendly Nintendo Switch/Console game from 2017. It's a venerable 7 years old at the time of this review. It's only half of a complete game, and given that it's 2024 now and this console game came out in 2017, well, a game of such low ambition as this shouldn't take 7 years to finish. But we can also raise the ethical questions around selling only half a game for cash money, and then deciding later if they want to finish it or not. And then, presumably, charge gamers even more money for the other half of the game they already paid for. Steam Direct... what a time to be alive. Anyway, this game was going to be a point and click adventure game exploring LGBTQ+ issues from a historical perspective. I assume, since they never finished it, it's hard to say too much else about it. From a technical perspective, this 50% of a game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. Despite not being in Steam Early Access (where this arguably belongs), the game is missing features and is apparently incomplete. Due to the lack of meaningful progress from the developer, it's unlikely t…3 found this helpful
Hellew, I'm not anyone, BUT...HOLY SSSS, what a noice game it is, indeed. If you even want to like history, or 'the navy' in any sense, go for it....can't be that much, to pay, or spend time on, idk I've done 36 hours cuz, I probably leave it on a ton, and it does get kinda over the top a bit, with stuff, BUT I'd say, if you gotta, or you feel you should, for any reason, then, DANG son, go for it....LOL cuz how could you, even, describe, why you feel, like you should....and stuff. BOOM review done, I guess. bing.
8/10 Loved it, but the story is incomplete.
Really good! The only issue is fixed in the second book if you are concerned (the pronunciation of boatswain). Only took me about 4h to do book 1 and 2 so it doesn't take too long also! I put this off for ages because I was concerned I'd be playing all day but it's a perfect length, especially because of choices which really matter! I don't want to spoil the story but it's a great time on a boat (for a certain amount of great time on a boat).
