Heroes Must Die (2016)

"Heroes Must Die" is a tongue-in-cheek satirical pixelcrap RPG, the developer tried to describe this as an ARPG but it's turn based... I think it would be a good idea if developers pass some kind of basic game understanding test before being allowed to burn $100 through Steam Direct. Anyway this is not great. It looks like an RPG Maker asset flip, but instead of taking the easy route they used Unity to recreate something that looks like an RPG Maker asset flip. Putting effort into failure. What do you do in the game? Mediocre turn based tactical combat punctuated by reams of high school anime club dropout cringefest fan-fiction "writing". You know that old axiom of game design, "Show, don't tell?" Because the developer here didn't. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. Really fun satire game! Unfortunately, combat is a little too quick/twitchy for this old guy to keep up with so I didn't get very far, but I enjoyed what I go to experience none the less.
