The Very Brief and Meaningless Adventure of Hero Man

Probably my least favorite Torch60 game. The satirical element is good, but I'm not sure Dragon Quest gameplay is a good match for the sequence breaking. That is, the fun part is figuring out different sequences, so it's tedious to re-navigate the areas and re-fight the boss. Giving a positive review anyway because that "Obey the Fist" guy is a moron.

The Very Brief and Meaningless Adventure of Hero Man is a compact role-playing game that deliberately plays with the traditions of classic fantasy adventures instead of trying to imitate them seriously. Developed and published by Torch60, the game takes familiar ingredients such as a destined hero, an evil villain, party members, turn-based battles, leveling, and world-saving responsibilities, then reshapes them into a humorous experience built around experimentation. Its title accurately describes the scale of the journey, but the apparent simplicity hides a game designed to be replayed repeatedly as players search for different conclusions and discover just how flexible Hero Man’s adventure can become. The story takes place in a fantasy world called Somewhere, where Hero Man is seemingly expected to confront the threatening Lord Doldrum. In a conventional RPG, this setup would probably lead to a predictable journey involving exploration, increasingly dangerous enemies, stronger equipment, and an eventual confrontation with the villain. very brief, very meaningless, 10/10

Such a fun concept! As with all Torch60 games, it's highly polished with great dialogue. You spend the game trying to get all 18 endings, completing your journey in different ways to unlock everything. It's not as repetitive as it seems. It took me about 6.5 hours to 100% it; it definitely makes for a pleasant evening, especially for FREE.

It's a good game, very brief and meaningless, but good fun.
