✦ AI summary

Heroic Kingdom: Origins offers impressive depth for its low price, with players praising the extensive crafting systems, ability variety, character customization, and old-school RPG charm reminiscent of classics like Ultima and Gothic. However, the game suffers from rough polish issues including poor shadow implementation, lack of UI guidance, optimization problems, and minimal updates during its extended early access period, which has led some players to feel the small development team may have been overly ambitious.

First off, Heroic Kingdom: Origins is a complete steal at $10. I've only been playing for an hour and already there is so much to do. - Crafting - Alchemy - Mining - Enchanting - More talent trees than what I know to do with - Hidden items This is all within minutes of starting. I've only gotten to level 10 so far, but I've already had 5 or 6 different abilities drop. There is a parry system, I-Frames (roll), Magic, Ranged, Melee. It looks like there is no restrictions on what abilities you can use, if you have the stats to cast it, you can use it. I was exploring the world, avoiding bandits in the area, when a bear absolutely demolished me. The fact that it looks like there are only 2 guys working on the game is astonishing. I see some of the earlier reviews talking about polish, I'm not sure what it was like then, but the game feels smooth, combat is engaging, attacks feel weighty and rewarding. Not once did I feel like it's "janky". I picked up a 2H mace, enemies literally knocked all over the place. So far every different weapon combo I've used has it's own set of animations (swords, axes, maces, and daggers - on top of that they're all different for 1h/2h combos). Each we…

I didn't Imagine I could find such a beautiful game at such a low price. Even If the title Is in early access, the work behind this game Is huge, and you can appreciate in the attention to details all the passion the devs have for Classic rpgs. The enemy variety Is mesmerizing, as the quality of personalization of your character's talents and abilities. When you play this game, you IMMEDIATELY remember about Ultima and Gothic series. I do Hope to play with more content, the experience with the First hours of gameplay Is absolutely positive.

There's still some rough patches to iron out, and the art direction is unfortunately full on asset pack, generic game you see someone playing on a low-budget movie level bland, but even at this point as an Early Access title, there's also a lot to enjoy here, as my playtime attests. Give it a shot for some pretty decent action-RPG questing. I'd recommend a magic-focused build, as that's what seems to work the best by far in my experience.

I've been looking for this type of game for SO long. A game where I can solo level a character and choose exactly how I want to build him as I progress with no limitations on my build, basically be like Sung Jin Woo. A game with an MMO style without being an MMO. A game with awesome action RPG gameplay. This game gives me ALL of those and I'm loving it! Please support these devs! They have made such an amazing hidden gem, they are very responsive on their Discord, and their game is worth much more than what they charge!

I'm sorry, but this is some of the worst indie jank I have ever come across on Steam. The entire experience feels incredibly cheap and highly janky, as if this small development team was perhaps a little overly ambitious. One of the main issues I had with this game is that the shadowing is not properly implemented. No matter what I selected in the graphic options, shadows are WAY too dark and often completely blacken buildings and enemies. Nighttime is even worse, when the entire screen turns black with only a torch to light your way. There is also no direction how to make daylight appear again. In fact, there's no direction for anything. You just run around trying to find quests. Optimization is also not very good because I experienced constant frame rate drops in 4k resolution with an RTX4080 no matter what I selected in the graphic options. You also cannot adjust graphic options or the controls unless you quit playing and return to the main menu. Combat also feels incredibly janky and the sword feels like you are swishing through the air instead of impacting the enemy. Enemies are also spongy taking too many attacks to bring down. You are also constantly being shot with spell…
