About Hollywood Animal

✦ AI summary

Build your dream movie studio from scratch, whether that's a blockbuster factory, an avant-garde festival darling, or a trashy B-movie machine, while navigating the dark underbelly of Hollywood through manipulation, blackmail, and alliance-building. What sets it apart is that behind every business decision lies a web of human drama—ambitions, secrets, and moral compromises—where your choices shape both the films you make and the industry politics that surround them.

Build exactly the studio you want In Hollywood Animal, you can decide to build a multi-billion-dollar monster that destroys everything in its path, with blockbusters made strictly according to formulas. But this is far from your only option. You might instead create a boutique studio, and conquer the festivals with avant-garde directors. You could build a trash factory, challenging "good taste" at every turn, filling the screens with blood and spit. This game doesn't tell you how to play or limit you in anything. Just have fun making movies while you try to keep the whole thing afloat.

We shouldn't forget the film industry is just one part of a much larger and dynamic world. Wars and social upheaval, censorship and corruption, strained relations with the authorities and criminal disputes. — Some will be buried in an avalanche of problems, while others seize new opportunities. Make your moves behind the scenes, form unexpected alliances, lie and betray. There are no magic formulas in Hollywood Animal. Only those who can adapt and negotiate survive.

You're the boss, not the groundskeeper

You're the head of a movie studio, and Hollywood Animal delivers challenges fitting your status. Your attention won't be dominated by wallpaper selection and planting bushes. Your time is worth much more than that. Instead you'll be focused on which characters and themes really capture your audience's imagination. That is, while you're not focused on investing in technology that will revolutionize the industry. All while you're persuading a bright young star to sign a long-term contract — despite the fact the arrogant punk has sworn he'll never work with you again.

Of course, Hollywood Animal has everything we love about the genre — building, resource management, upgrades and the rest. — But this is just an outer shell. What matters is the choices you make and the human stories that are written in the process. Whims, prejudices, addictions, secrets from the past... show business is always a tangle of conflicts, and you will be the one to unravel it all. Let someone who works for you take care of the bushes.

Any approach is good — we are, after all, only animals

Hollywood Animal includes you in every step of the filmmaking process, from making up plots to theater distribution, and each part of the game is crafted with artistry and dedication. But the opportunities you'll have are much wider than what you'd usually expect from a tycoon strategy game. Every business has a dark side. You can follow the law — or stay on the mayor's good side. You can raise the screenwriter's salary — or remind him about the prostitute he strangled, which you yourself had hushed up. You can delay a film's release to avoid competition — or ask your friends in the mafia to clear the whole calendar.

You'll want to take great care, when picking the actor for the lead role in your Civil War epic. But in Hollywood Animal, it's just as important how many ribs you'll have to break before he accepts the part.

A grind simulator where you run a movie studio but you gonna need a trainer to speed up your research to match the curveball. Still difficult when handling other parties outside the studio and the movie production itself a bit of chores. Not sure if there's still a bug where the female roles turned to male roles or text disappears or just crashes. They need to specifically focus in fixing Chapter 1 since it's the only part that still being developed. Buy it on discount or after a huge updates.

It's just a total mess. Popups every 5 seconds, continual police raids, progress locked behind skill trees with lengthy research times and no clarity regarding which should take priority.

I’m so sad because I had so much fun with this game for 1.9 hours and now it’s so unplayably broken. I’ve tried deleting my saves, disabling cloud saves, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and nothing works. I can’t get more the 5-10 minutes into a save without the game freezing or crashing. I will try again after it comes out of early access and I hope it will be way more stable (especially on steam deck). I’m playing The Executive instead and it’s not as deep but at least it’s still fun and playable.

Just pure good and often unapologetic fun. I enjoy the core gameplay loop so much that in most playthroughs I do not explore the more narrative aspects of the game, but the fact that I can do so without ever feeling like I am missing out on something speaks to how solid the foundation of this game is. Only minor complaint I would have is I still have not run into an instance were Boutique studio policy does not feel like the outright best option due to being able to see the upper limits of prospective hires, though I admittedly have not dug deep into what the other studio policies have to offer. Excited for Act 2 and for an even more detailed process of making movie magic! If you like fun puzzles, watching numbers go up, or finally deciding to retaliate against other studios shenanigans through the Irish Mob then you will likely surrender your waking hours to this game. Also if you enjoy the history of the Hays Code or the Golden Age of Hollywood then the narrative elements will likely resonate with you more than they did me.

itching for 1.0

This could have been a great game - if it was a "sandbox". Unfortunately it's linear - if you start a new game exact same events happen and that's what drives the story. The choices that you are making don't influence the story line and the only random elements are small and not significant.
