About Hook-a-Duck VR

Exactly what it says on the tin; Hook-a-duck, in VR!

Ever played the game where you catch rubber ducks with a rudimentary plastic fishing rod? possibly. What about the version where some of the ducks had outboard motors attached to their rear-end and can actually "fly"? unlikely. What about the even rarer variant where some of the ducks are invisible? impossible.

Hook-a-Duck VR is a simple VR interpretation of the classic fairground stalwart, with a few extra spicy additions.

Multiple gamemodes!

  • Simon Says: Catch only the ducks "Simon" (in this case a PC monitor) asks you to catch!
  • This or That: Put the ducks in the bucket that matches the sentence! If the sentence is "____ for dead", put it in the bucket that says "Left"!
  • Score attack and more: Time limit and score attack modes; catch all the ducks in the time limit & catch as many as you can in the time limit!

Duck variety!

  • Armed with an outboard motor and a helmet, some ducks can move when they want to!
  • A novel idea; Some ducks can actually fly!
  • Some ducks use a cloaking ability to evade capture, although impacts can reveal their position briefly!
  • Just like us, every Duck is different; some are big, some are small!
  • Other ducks are happy to be their own, unremarkable selfs. These ducks have no additional abilites at all!

✦ AI summary

Players praise this VR game for its accessible controls, good difficulty scaling, and charming cartoon-style graphics across multiple enjoyable modes like Simon Says. The main criticism involves controller tracking issues on certain headsets like the Rift S, where controllers appear visually misaligned despite functional gameplay.

review great game. Has a good level of difficulty, played on rift s and worked fine, though your controllers pop up virtually looking like a different headset. I'ts easy to learn the controls. Theirs four different modes total including my favourite, Simon says, where you have to pick a certain colour and put all ducks of that colour in before you run out of time, with 3 types of difficulty, easy, medium, and hard. Graphics are pretty good, more cell shaded or cartoon-ish. Great game overall, i would play it again and would recommend it to others.
