✦ AI summary

Hot Lap Racing is a simcade racing game that players appreciate for its approachable mechanics, good car variety, decent visuals, and solid career progression system, particularly when purchased on discount. However, players consistently criticize the AI behavior—which is either too slow and passive or overly aggressive and prone to ramming—along with the lack of rewind/restart options and limited handling customization, making it feel like a budget alternative to more polished racing titles like Project Cars 3.

3/10 car go fast another racing game where its better to hit the corner at MAX speed with the respawn already prepped and timed perfectly so it drops you on the track after the turn penalized all over the place for hitting other cars

Hot Lap Racing is an earnest and ambitious racing title that aims to capture the spirit of motorsport across eras while remaining approachable to a wide audience. Developed by Zero Games Studios and published by Maximum Entertainment, the game positions itself firmly in the “simcade” space, seeking a balance between the accessibility of arcade racers and the discipline required by simulation-style driving. Rather than focusing on spectacle or open-world freedom, Hot Lap Racing is built around structured circuit racing, lap mastery, and the satisfaction of incremental improvement. From the outset, it presents itself as a game for players who enjoy the fundamentals of racing: braking points, racing lines, consistency, and the pursuit of faster lap times. The backbone of the experience is its career progression, which guides players through a wide range of racing disciplines and vehicle classes. The game offers an impressive variety of cars that span multiple generations of motorsport, from classic touring and endurance machines to modern GT cars and open-wheel racers. Each class introduces a noticeably different driving feel, encouraging players to adapt rather than rely on a single…

Hot Lap Racing is simcade, that most lean to arcade, track racing game and its feels like what Project Cars 3 want to be but its poorly execute. On the positive side the career mode has good progression system, the car models and tracks look good and the sounds are decent it. The is a great variety of modern and historic motorsport cars. On the neutral side the handling is good enough. On the negative side well first of all the AI is terrible. They are slow even on the hardest difficulty so once you overtake them is a cruise to the finish line but its very frustrating to get there. First of all the the really want to follow the racing line and will to everything to get you out of their way so its really hard to go side and its make it even worse when the push you even the slightest off track which slow down the car even if the off track section is asphalt. Second the crash into the barrier or themselves pretty often causing massive pile up which are hard to navigate through and the inconsistent collision physics don't make it any better. Both the barriers and sausage curbs will sometime stop the car like it hit a brick wall, other time they will violate make the car bou…

Very good indeed! The trees would benefit from some more variety, but no matter.

Here's the thing. If you're going into this game expecting a AAA sim racing experience, it's only natural you're going to be disappointed. And honest truth, the normal price is a bit of a heavy ask for a game of this quality. But I bought it on special promotion for just under $10 CDN and if you can get it on discount, I'd say it's MORE than worth the money. The biggest negatives I can think of are the lack of any real options to sort of "finesse" the handling model, the AI cars in races being a bit clunky, and a few small functionality things (like no option to switch to imperial units from metric). But when you consider this is an indie racing game from a small studio with a small budget, it's a bit easier to forgive these things. But overall, there are some things I really, really enjoy about this game. The car and track list is interesting, including some tracks I've never seen in other racing games (like Kuwait Motor Town) and some quite rare cars to see in other games. The graphics are terrible by modern AAA game standards but when you consider this game was meant to run on Nintendo Switch, it's actually not a terrible looking game on my PC. Most importantly for me is that…

The game is fun. its kind of like a TOCA or GRID lite , or even a NFS Shift lite with a French flavor. it looks like a sim but has arcade physics and handling and that's fine . its easy to pick up and play. on a good PC with setting on ultra the game looks pretty nice with nice car models , the trackside is not as detailed as the cars but still looks pretty decent. the trees are the weak spot graphically and some look ugly and flat . the AI have a tendency to crash you out on the start sometimes which can be frustrating as there is no restart or rewind options , so all you can do is try to recover and try to catch them and pass them before the finish. other than the at times bad AI i had no other issues with the game. I'm on windows 11 and game runs smooth and have not had any crashes, Pros easy to pick up and play smooth frame rate nice variety of vehicles nice selection of tracks cons AI can be dumb at times and likes to crash you out all races are day time and clear skies no damage , not even cosmetic damage i understand this is the studios 1st racing game , and for a 1st attempt I must say i think they did a pretty good job. i would like to see this becom…
