Hot Lava is a simple game that understands exactly what it wants to be. What I enjoy most about Hot Lava is how easy it is to pick up and play. You can jump in for ten minutes, run through a course or two, and walk away feeling like you got your gaming fix. But if you want to stick around, there’s surprisingly enough here to keep you playing for an hour or two, especially when you start chasing better times and trying to improve your runs. The game also works really well both solo and with friends. Playing alone gives you that satisfying feeling of learning a course, figuring out the fastest route, and gradually getting better. With friends, it becomes a much more casual and chaotic experience where simply making it through the level can be entertaining. Hot Lava isn't a particularly deep game, and I actually think that's one of its biggest strengths. It doesn't try to overwhelm you with complicated systems, endless progression mechanics, or unnecessary distractions. At its core, it's just about movement, timing, exploration, and trying to get from one end of a course to the other without touching the floor. Sometimes that's all a game needs to be. I don't really play platformers, let alone first-person ones, but I have to say, 'Hot Lava' is fantastic in this regard. The movement is very slick and responsive, the energetic soundtrack hypes the player up and boosts the atmosphere really well. The game gives the player a variety of movement styles, depending on the ability they choose - if they want to bunnyhop or double-jump, for example. So there's something for everyone. Levels are divided into sections, with each one having its own theme and maps within them always have parkour elements, such as trampolines, monkey bars, railings to grind on, ledges to grab onto and much, much more. It's a fantastic platformer and overall a very fun game, give it a shot!
