Pass at full price, maybe at a discount, 3/10. I love the setting, I read a lot, I own all the WoD CoG games, I'm currently in a Hunter campaign right now, I'm a big fan of the media this author was clearly inspired by, I could go on. Basically, I'm the target audience for this. Additionally, these games don't release nearly often enough for me to be overly picky about their writing or coding, meaning I'm more forgiving than I otherwise would be given that these infrequent releases are basically water in the desert for me! All that said, I beat it and shelved it. That's not something I tend to do with these types of games, but I did it here for the following reasons: 1.) The writing is subpar. I'm not talking about the script format, because that's cute due to the whole Hollywood theme, I'm talking about the actual quality of the text itself. It's rough as hell, repeats itself a lot, and if you take a drink every time "Fascinating" shows up in one of the choices, you'll be very drunk (or dead) before it ends. Hire an editor, people. Or, if this author DID hire an editor, don't pick that one in the future! 2.) It's buggier than most first-week WoD CoG games I've played,…

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 683: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (9/10) Wake up, babe, another World of Darkness (WoD) game just dropped 😍😍😍 Straight up: not only is Hunter: The Reckoning — Day For Night (DfN) one of the best WoD titles released, it’s one of the best titles ever released, period. Hollywood! Monsters! Guns! A totally normal, non-cult leader! A money system that encourages morally questionable financial decisions! Labelle packed DfN with impressive mechanical depth, narrative flexibility, and choices that actually matter. With character-building, an open-ended mission structure, wonderfully nasty combat descriptions, and a setting with more going on than just vampires being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, there's a lot to dig into here. Is it perfect? No. The prose is an acquired taste, the romances feel more like a collection of horny encounters than fully developed relationships, and the game could use another round of polish. But when DfN gets things right, it really does. I had a hell of a time playing it, and I suspect I'll be admiring its workings under the hood for a while. [b]As always, I owe a huge thank you to the staff for the free copy! See full…

It's one of the best Old World of Darkness games ever made. You got a hub, you got side quests, romances, multiple ways to complete your goals, excellent writing and quest design, a variety of ways to plan out and deal with each target, and there is SO much content you could replay it a number of times and find new stuff. Highly recommend if you'v enjoyed Hosted Games/Choice of Games WoD games in the past.

Hell yes. Excellent game, fun choices, great branching, what else could you possible ask for? Laughed, cried, almost died, would do it again. Hell, I know I will.

As far as these sorts of games go, I think Day For Night is quite good. The character writing can be a little bland and generic at times, but the atmosphere it creates keeps it engaging and the world is just really fun to spend time in. There's a very extensive list of possibilities for how the story can go and it's all made satisfying without bogging you down too much in terms of the raw stats and numbers. It's simple, engaging and as satisfying as a cool drink vampire vitae. If you're interested in World of Darkness, vampire hunting, or are horny for the creatures of the night, give it a shot!

A really well-designed entry into the World of Darkness CoG games. Not perfect by any means and some characters do feel a bit bland (it reminds me of early season, creature-of-the-week Supernatural), but the choice/agency given to your character and accessibility to explore the world and navigate things like a proper RPG lands it a thumbs up in my book. It's also a bit of a different vibe from the other WoD entries, but does a good job IMO on the more pulpy elements of WoD. Thoroughly enjoyed.
