About Hyperspeed

There's no room for error when travelling at the speed of light, racing through star systems in a desperate search for a new world to house Mankind. But there are plenty of opportunities for mistakes. Alien races of every conceivable size, shape, temperament and sophistication seek to aid, use, corrupt or destroy you - and you don't know which.

Sure, your starship is 15,000 feet long and armed with remote-controlled fightercraft, kamakazi fighters, a devestating plasma gun and high-tech probes, but will all that firepower be against The Stentor, rithless time-travelling space pirates, or the colossal energy beings known as The ZOR?

Perhaps diplomacy is the answer. The Cicisbeo are vain and arrogant - perhaps that ego can be worked to your advantage. The broodmasters are sinister, manipulative and seek universal domination, but are they a little too eager?

Perhaps something can be gained from shrewd trading. But that will be tough against the ever-seeking, ever-hungry Collectors, keepers of the Museum of Time; not to mention the supra-intelligent Jot, who control the minds of everyone nearby.

Whatever choices you make, make them quickly. You're moving at Hyperspeed - second thoughts could be fatal.

It's MORE of a political / social PUZZLE game, with a space simulator as the vehicle . . AND the timer is ticking, humanity is waiting for you to solve EACH cluster / galaxy

Very old space ship simulator. You definitely need to read the manual and some guides to play this. Funny, it has the original DRM, so you need to find a specific word in the manual, like old times :D. It was a truly great experience, because I just pirated old games shhhh.... :D

I used to play this game when it was new so I tried the steam download. Very frustrating that it will freeze ( windows 11) and does not run reliably on Windows 11 regardless of the DOS emulator tried.

Decent space exploration sim. While I loved the idea of these as a kid, there were few I found fun and engaging. Being that I got into a space battle immediately upon arriving at my destination, this one gets a thumbs up. Things did slow down after that though.

Y'all, this game holds up pretty well. I would say, this game, Ultima VI, and Gunship 2000 were the best games of of 1990/91. The graphics are, of course, from 35 years ago, but Hyperspeed is surprisingly playable and complex. Some of my appreciation is nostalgic, sure, but that could only keep me interested for half an hour or so if it wasn't good. It works well in DOSbox, but you do have to locate a PDF of the manual online, which is easy, and use it to get past the digital rights management (DRM) challenge question. You can simply hit 'enter' and bypass it, but the game will lock after a few actions. If you complete the DRM, which is easy with the manual, it should work fine. The manual is over 100 pages and illustrates the amount of work that went into the game. It explains all of the game mechanics, but frustratingly doesn't include a simple list of key commands that you have to use, so here are the more important ones for your reference: "+" "-" Increas/Decrease speed "space bar" Blaster cockpit "F" Launch fighter "G" Launch guided missile "K" Launch Kamikaze "R" Return chassis (Fighter) "E" Engine Room (Esc to return to main cockpit) "N" Navigation Map "<" ">" cycle throug…
