I Want to Believe

I wanted to like this but they really oversold it. There is no detective work whatsoever, just a series of linear fetch quests that amount to taking photos of NPCs or static objects that are marked on your map. There's no real narrative, just nonsensical cut scenes and half baked instructions thrown at you after you trigger progression by taking enough photos. The NPC conversations are not worth your time, nothing they tell you has any bearing on the game, none of the information you "uncover" actually matters or relates to what you're meant to do in the game in a meaningful way. The pinboard mechanic is completely pointless. Speaking of pointelss, the headlights and torch are about as useful as candles. The pathing for npc cars is terrible, constantly crashing, getting stuck, and completely unable to avoid obstacles. The AI generated music is awful, a non stop cringe inducing slop fest. No controller support, no key remapping, no real quality settings to speak of. This feels like an early access title that got abandoned.

game is dead no updates since launch

Meh. Seems great on paper and had lots of potential to be "The X-Files" inspired game, but the actual gameplay is kind of boring (sorry to use that word). Not much alien things happening, in fact none at all, and there's nothing really to do around town it's pretty dead. It also glitches and it's apparent the devs totally bailed on this project. Good thing I bought it at a good discount because it's definitely not worth the current price.

I wanted to believe this game would be good or at least amusing. And it almost was. For like two hours. But then the tedium sets in as you realize there's really not much to this game besides driving around and taking pictures of stuff while listening to the absolutely deranged AI slop on the radio. It's also pretty janky, runs real choppy, and constantly feels like it's about to crash--though it never did. Which is nice.

This is a rare gem that will probably never get the appreciation it deserves. Made by one developer in a year and a half, it's janky, relatively simple, hilarious, and surprising. There are a few bugs, but they don't ruin the game. The music is full of innuendos, stereotypes, and jokes. The investigations lead to strange and sometimes comedic evidence, pushing the darkness of the storyline into the background until you notice certain details or get farther into the game. Go to the Club of Conspiracists meetings, investigate the aliens, crash your truck, & get to know the locals. [spoiler]Then go on a murder spree and try not to get caught.[/spoiler] Don't worry Unc. I won't let you down.

I AM LUMBERJACK ! Probably one of the best soundtracks in history of game video industry.
