Ice Nosfe

Alright. Played through a bit of [i]Ice Nosfe[/i], who is a giant creature you need to destroy on each of ten levels. This is exactly an old arcade/NES style game. You will find water refills. One will pop up in random spots as you collect the last one. Each type of enemy has different movement speeds. Your gun will turn them to ice after a certain amount of shots, which vary based on the enemy type. You then fire the ice at the Nosfe, reducing its health bar. When it reaches zero, the level is complete. You also have health in the form of five hearts. Each contact with an enemy reduces your health by one. I was gifted this game from the developer, so you shouldn't trust anything I say here. :) This is a simple but solid game. You have two types of enemies, the little baddies that wander around randomly and the big boss that is a floating head. Your weapon is water-based. You can shoot water at the little baddies, and frozen cubes at the big boss. The water can only be fired horizontally, and ice can be tossed in 8 directions. The ice has some simple physics so it can bounce around, but I just aimed it at the boss so physics did not play a big part of what I played. You have to kill the little baddies to charge up the ice cubes. The graphics are bright and NES-like but with more screen resolution. The movement of running around and getting on and off ladders feels very simplistic and slightly klunky. The enemy AI is also very basic. The audio is very old-school console. These qualities make the game feel more like a Commodore64 or NES game as opposed to a more finessed arcade experience. It looks and plays mechanically closer to 8-bit than 16-bit if that resonates. Was sent a review copy as the Dev feels this is something Visually Impaired gamers will be able to enjoy. There are no options, nevermind accessibility options. So no text to speech to indicate what needs to be done. So I can only guess the basic graphics which have a degree of contrast and the fact there are very few options to work through to get into the game is why I was sent this? Could I play it? Just about. Will I play it again? Unlikely. Do I recommend it for the Visually Impaired? If you can make out the screen shots okay and like 8 bit platformers then go for it. Otherwise steer clear. I won't give it a thumbs down because it is cheap and does what it sets out to. Neither will I heartily recommend.

Great retro style title. Controller friendly. With the "X" button you shoot the smaller enemies to get ice with your water pistol. The player must then use the "Y" button to shoot ice at the main (large) enemy. The player can save 3 ice shots to shoot a larger ice shot at the main enemy. I purchased the game on sale for one dollar and one cent. I'm having a great time with this title. Overall, for one dollar and one cent, I'm enjoying it. It's actually quite addicting. Cuddles Arcade.
