Imperiums: Greek Wars is a dense and ambitious strategy experience that aims to capture the political complexity, military uncertainty, and cultural richness of the ancient Mediterranean world. Developed and published by Kube Games, the game positions itself at the crossroads of traditional 4X design and grand strategy, offering a slower, more contemplative take on empire building. Set around 359 BC, during a period of immense upheaval and opportunity, it invites players to guide a faction through an era where city-states rise and fall, alliances are fragile, and power is as much about diplomacy and economy as it is about armies on the march. From the outset, the scope of the game is immediately apparent. Players can choose from a wide array of factions scattered across Greece, the Balkans, Anatolia, and surrounding regions, ranging from famous powers like Athens, Sparta, and Macedon to lesser-known tribes and emerging states. Each faction starts with a distinct geographical position, political situation, and set of challenges, ensuring that no two campaigns feel the same. An uphill grind every step of the way. I won't give it a thumbs down because that wouldn't be fair to the developers and people who like this type of challenge, but as for me - I couldn't stand it.2 found this helpful
One of the best strategy games I've ever played. Somehow, this little indie game has better diplomacy and trade than the big-hitters (won't name names but you know who I'm talking about.) So excited to jump into all the DLCs. This year's expansion, Fall of Rome, is one of my most anticipated releases of the year. Sure, it's not the prettiest game, and the UI is a little janky, but the overall presentation ends up being quite charming. The occasional clunky UI element is an easier pill to swallow when the strategy gameplay is this engaging.2 found this helpful
If graphics aren't a big deal to you, this is one of the best 4X/Grand Strategy games available. Deep, yet accessible. Fantastic diplomacy. Great gameplay.1 found this helpful
