Intrepid Izzy

[h2]Intro[/h2] Even though this game was released some years ago, I only heard about it at the end of last year, when I saw someone playing it on the Dreamcast (yes, this game was made for the Dreamcast, as an Indie project). After that, I purchased this game here on Steam, and to be honest, it's probably my favourite game of 2026 so far (we're still halfway through the year, so...). [h2]Graphics[/h2] The game itself is very charming, graphic wise, with an anime look with high definition models and backgrounds. The animations are also superb, where you can see several details like the hair animation of Izzy (the main character). [h2]Gameplay[/h2] Gameplay itself is easy to pick up. The game is a mix of platforming with scrolling beat'em up. It also has a [i]Metroidvania[/i] vibe, given that you'll be going back and forth plenty of times, to reach new parts of the levels as soon as you unlock new abilities. These abilities are tied to [i]suits[/i]. Each [i]suit[/i] has a specific set of skills, like gliding, wall-jumping, etc. The combat itself is basically a one-button action fighter. Cute homage to the "Shantae" series plus small nods to other games, with good controls, good soundtrack, some boring bosses (save for our doppelganger and the final boss), a few annoying quirks (why do I have to go back to the hub town every time I want to change costumes?) and a nice "anything goes" quality similar to older games. Recommended if you like retro 1990s platformers.

For the longest time I thought this just looks corny. I am glad I gave this a try. Great artwork, fluid animations, comical interactions, challenging gameplay, smooth controls, clear sound effects, delightful music. That's just my opinion. I know you didn't ask me for it... (:

I am a big fan of metroidvania games from small indie game devs, which is why I decided to check out this game. It did deliver an enjoyable experience with a mixture of platforming and combat. Some fo the backgrounds were a little generic, but the game had vibrant colours and was nice to look at. The character controls well and the different suits which grant different abilities was cool. It was just a pain that you had to go back to your house each time you wanted to change suits, it would have been nice to be able to change on the fly (or at least at save points). I played thru the entire game on my Steam Deck without any problems. Overall, it is a nice game if you like combat platforming metroidvanias from a small indie developer.

Cute and LOOKS fun, but is actually frustrating and unfun. + Constant backtracking with a horrible checkpoint system. + Constant monster ambushes AND lockdown areas with monster ambushes. + Absurd controls. Why do I have to use Street Fighter combos to use magic that I only have a limited quantity of? + The music is VERY repetitive + Did you ever wish there was a Mario game which required you to use a map because you constantly get lost during your endless backtracking? Me neither. Fun to look at. Not fun to play.

Izzy is cool oh and the game is a neat metroidvania
