About Jasper Vice: Legends Untold

Soar, dive, and explore the floating islands as a young Gryphon in this flying fantasy adventure. Delve into the lore and discover what it means to be a Voyager.

Aethra, the islands in the sky, are at peace, and have been for a few years. The enemy was defeated and driven below by a group of heroes known as The Voyagers. Since then, the Voyagers have been more focused on defeating beasts, gathering lost animals, and organizing supply and rescue missions than combat. But their leader, King Eiolin, insists that they not grow complacent. "The day will come when evil will rise again, and we must be ready to play our part to defeat it, however small that role might be." Until that day comes, they continue to serve the King by traversing Aethra, bringing beauty where evil besmirched it, order where chaos reigned, and plenty where there was lack.

And so, Commander Vileth, a veteran of The Voyagers, keeps hard at work, maintaining the caliber of The Voyagers by only recruiting those he considers uniquely qualified for the task. As King Eiolin has charged him, he doesn't just look at performance, but at the heart. For he knows well that a hero is more than just a weapon.

The player takes the role of a young Gryphon named Jasper, who dreams of serving under King Eiolin as a member of The Voyagers. It is a time of peace, but it will not remain so for much longer.

Easy to learn, hard to master

The simple control scheme allows players to get going quickly and easily, but yet allows for much more advanced maneuvers to experienced players.

Lore to be discovered

Challenges to overcome

The player must pass a series of challenges to progress to the next phase of Jaspers' Voyager training.

Jasper Vice a fun game about griffins. It took a little while to get the hang of it, but I enjoyed the flying in the game. The sense of speed is really appealing to me. I had fun catching the Maydrids in the second chapter. The world has been very thought out. I like the concept of different types of gryphons like Aelic the big Owl Griffin. I can see a lot of care has been put in to it. Also liked the cattle which are a mix between a cow & a hercules beetle. Very cute!

It's a small game with a simple core game loop, but it feels nice to play, and the story keeps you engaged. I like how the game explores themes like war without actually adding combat as a game mechanic. A lot of games have violence without context, but this game takes place between a storied past and a uncertain future, and explores rarely seen themes like honoring the past and training for an uncertain future.

Very chill game. Characters are nice and fun, flying feels very good (though has some rough edges at times). Environments are nice. This is a genre I rarely play, but was pleasantly surprised. Great if you are in a chill mood. Helpful tip: It takes a while to get comfortable with all the buttons and flight controls, but once you do flying is delightful. I would recommend you play with controller AND keyboard and mess with the inverted mouse options until you find something that works for you. I preferred playing with mouse and keyboard with non-inverted controls but I'm sure others would prefer controller.

An quirky and endearing game. While it has a short play time and low polygon look, I found myself pretty engaged with world crafted here. The flight mechanics can feel clunky if you try pushing too far with speed. I found the mouse and keyboard much more preferable to play over the controller, particularly with the time trial activities that demand some precise maneuvering. Another little peeve is the controller options resetting on new playthroughs, which can eat a little time having to reset them for the speedrunner achievement. Additionally, if you finish the main story, the save will lock to the final cutscene. There is no option for replaying chapters, but the game is short enough as is to do without one. The achievements for getting the time trials seem to be bugged. I met the criteria for 3-starring each time trial, but none of the four achievements associated with them unlocked. (Looking at the attainment percentages, 0.0% of players have gotten it as of this review) Overall, I enjoyed my time playing it and hope the few bugs that remain get fixed. Maybe even a sequel in the future.

The flying mechanics are a joy, and the story, though low-stakes and very simple, has a good message! A good afternoon's playthrough! Definitely worth it!
