✦ AI summary

Players praise Karakurium as an excellent Sokoban game with a well-designed difficulty curve that gradually introduces around 50 distinct mechanics across 500 handcrafted stages, making it particularly accessible for newcomers to the genre. The main criticisms center on the sheer volume of content prioritizing breadth over puzzle elegance, with many feeling that some stages could be tighter and more cleverly designed, and that the minimal story and narrative setup provide little motivation beyond the gameplay itself.

[後半に日本語レビューあり]
A Hidden-Gem Japanese-Style Sokoban Adventure Across 500 Karakuri Stages
A Sokoban-style puzzle adventure built on the story of Rena—a girl born as a karakuri puppet—who one day suddenly awakens with human consciousness and sets off on a journey through a mysterious karakuri world. The standout feature is the game's design, which progressively layers 50 distinct gimmick types. Karakuri Puppets (which start running on activation), Imitation Puppets (which copy every player movement), Conveyor Tiles, D-Pad Tiles—each gimmick is not a reskin of prior elements but carries its own logic, redefining what "solving" means each time. All 500 stages are handcrafted, and the estimated total playtime runs into several dozen hours—a substantial volume for an indie puzzle title. An unlimited Undo function and a penalty-free Hint system (unlocked progressively through play) create an environment where players can experiment freely without fear of failure. As someone with a deep love for Sokoban-style games, a puzzle title offering this volume and design precision at this price point strikes as genuinely rare. The structure can be appreciated by players of all skill level…

Karakurium is a cute block-pushing puzzle game filled with puppets and other gimmicks. If you've played any Sokoban game, it's somewhat similar, but with a lot of twists. Don't play the game expecting a story. There's a 1-minute intro that illustrates why the girl you're playing is alone in a world of puppets, but (as far as I've gotten in the game) no story at all beyond that, except for cute illustrations at the end of each area that are related to the theme of the area. Speaking of areas, the first 16 of them are like tutorials for the various devices, with each map focusing entirely on two or three devices at most. There are 4-12 puzzles in each area. These particular puzzles are on the short and easy side; there's no timer or move limit, and the generous hints are (almost) freely accessible. Each of these areas has a matching "true" version that is tougher, but not much tougher. After clearing all these tutorials, or enough of them to get to the east side of the world map (I recommend clearing them all, though), you'll reach a new set of areas in which the gimmicks are combined with each other. The puzzles in this area are more challenging, though you can still get h…

I've never been the best at Sokoban games, so this is from the view of a novice player. The game has a really nice difficulty curve, introducing new mechanics at a steady pace, and allowing you to complete optional tougher challenges once each fundamental has been grasped. After proving yourself with the first few areas, the game really opens up, so there are plenty of stages to choose from if you get stuck on one. Very rarely did I feel like the "basic" stages were beyond my grasp. Once you have most of the basics complete, you can then access areas that mix and match everything that you have learnt; this is tougher, but so far is still proving possible, but I suspect that will change before the end. As you complete stages, you slowly unlock the ability to view hints on the tougher stages, so even as a beginner player it is likely you will be able to see everything the game has to offer if you really wish, while preserving challenge for those that truly wish to test themselves. Played game with both my keyboard and my xbox controller with no fuss, and have experienced no glitches or crashes.

Pretty decent sokoban that borrows from EVERYTHING and even throws in a few of its own. And I mean there are like 30-40 mechanics, I lost track. Each one is introduced through a series of escalating puzzles, and sporting a robust 500 levels, it means a good 50-75 of these are tutorial puzzles, and later more challenging ones. There are a lot of cool ideas and combinations in here, but it feels like the puzzle design was steered more toward volume over elegance. I think a lot of the puzzles could have been combined into tighter and more clever variations. Feels like a perfect sokoban for beginners to get wet behind the ears.
