Kardboard Kings: Card Shop Simulator is a handheld (Nintendo Switch)/console game that's also been put on Steam as a bit of an afterthought, as it's very much designed for the handheld/console gaming audience. There's a lot of potential for this game that's been wasted on an incredibly weak, almost mobile app tier technical delivery. There's certainly a market for business tycoon games, and amongst those, yes, a trading card game shop simulator. And that's what you do in this game, buy and sell trading cards... but it's surprisingly shallow for what it is, the gameplay becomes stale quickly, and the godawfully bad Nintendo Switch limitations make the whole package unpleasant to handle. It's nice that there's an almost fleshed out cardgame and tournament system contained in the tycoon game, but for any of this to be successful it would need to be deeper, and the graphics would need to look better than what 12 year olds can do with MS-Paint. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." I think it's a fun little collection/shop manager! If you are looking for something with a story this might not be for you, since it does feel a bit unfinished. I personally also was not a fan of the card game for card game island, but that could just be me.

The game was a pleasant, albeit short experience. The card shop management was fun for awhile but started to get stale before I was able to unlock all the card sets in the game, and I felt that the story was interesting at first but was very quickly cut short without any real resolution. I also felt that the card game island mode that was implemented wasn't anything particularly interesting. If you can pick up the game on sale, Its not a bad investment. But I don't think its worth it at full price, even with the most recent update.

The best card shop simulator in my opinion. kept me hooked enough to get it on pc as well as on switch. Fun story, satisfying simulated card economy. definitely recommend.

Nice little game, not sure its worth 20 euro (its not) but if you get it at sale, why not. However, I can´t really recommend it because they just missed out on what could be the biggest draw for the game: To host actual tournaments that you can compete in as well (or have someone else compete in for you using your cards). Then i´d be happy to pay the 20 euros.
