Katanaut has exceptionally tight, satisfying combat, backed by great audiovisual design, and plenty of systems to experiment with. However, its punishing roguelite structure, and hectic, zoomed-in battles, make deaths feel like unavoidable surprises. Ultimately, I dropped the game, but I'll still recommend it as I think this is exactly the game some people are looking for. Full review below. I use a plus + and minus - system for how significantly each item improved or affected my experience. +++ Extremely clean combat. Mechanically tight. Lots of systems to play around with here. Combos and special moves and all sorts. ++ Good art style, very thematic. Great satisfying animations. ++ Good music and sound effects. +/- Very limited health and resources. This is a punishing game with no easy mode, every mistake is critical. +/- I think I'm kind of burnt out on the RNG loot roguelite genre. An excellent game with insane replay value. Had an absolute blast playing it. Already excited for the sequel :)

This game's got the best of a hack n slasher with classic Deadcells roguelike elements. slicin' it up is like crack

A fantastic Dead Cells-esque roguelite that takes place on a demon infested space station. It's challenging but not brutalizing and makes you feel very powerful, rewards moving quickly and has a ton of different options for weapons, abilities and powerups. Only finished the first run and there are many New Game + runs after this. I'm very much looking forward to them!

Many who say it picks up after first full clear aren't kidding. Until you beat the first 'final boss' it mostly is just beating the last boss of each zone for its difficulty. Once you start entering warp levels though its challenging and fun. Story/writing isn't half bad either, the aesthetic and music are top notch.

Great game, loved it since the demo, And there's a lot of new stuff since then (also it's not very expensive, thanks!)! It's very frantic and fun and weird! I like the pixel art and Thing/Cyborg Samurai vibes and the music is excellent!
