About Knight Trail

A silly little micro RPG
You are Sir Knick, trying to save the kingdom without dying from general incompetence. You're free to explore the expansive world any way you'd like, but beware of what you might encounter.
This game doesn't contain complex mechanics. Whether you die or survive is up to the choices you make.

About the game
In this game, you are tasked to explore a retro, but vast world. You'll have to keep track of your stats and supplies. You'll encounter many text-based events, which will often ask you to make difficult and not-so-difficult decisions.

Be sure to check out the website and printable manual too! Without a map, you might get lost. This game is a simplified version of a retro JRPG. Anyone can play, as long as they don't mind dying so much.

The Story
You are Sir Knick, an honorable knight sworn to protect the kingdom of Faraway. Thus far, your days have been spent helping the people. Finding lost cats, chasing away rodents, and banishing lost souls back to the darkness from which they came. Quite the knightly life.

One night, when listening in on a group of traveling merchants, you heard a worrying rumor. It seems that, after marrying a Warlcok's muse, your brother got cursed! The evil Warlock transformed him into a raging dragon.

Now it is on you to defeat the Warlock and lift the curse before your brother sets the kingdom ablaze.

However, it would be unwise to walk into their lair unprepared. They say a Warlock can only be killed by the blade they carried as a mortal. It must still be in one of their 4 castles.

Good luck, Knight.

Very enjoyable game. fun mechanics and entertaining dialog. Do wish it was a little longer, or maybe have a second story to go through.

First of all, thank you for the free product. I really appreciate it. Knight Trail is a fun, little & quirky game inspired by some of the giants of the RPG genre. Visually, it's Dragon Quest, gameplay wise it has some hints of King's Quest and a touch of Mother. In Knight Trail, you take control of Sir Knick. A peculiar Knight who seemingly can only face 1 direction. Most of the gameplay is up to chance, driven by RNG. That in itself is not a bad thing however, when paired with the fact that there is no save system in place, you can go a good 30 minutes on a run and lose that 30 minutes simply because you didn't know going through a cave would take exactly 3 Hunger away from you, killing you instantly if you don't have enough Hunger Points. The gameplay loop involves resource management, gathering information...and a lot of trial and error. As you move about the world of Faraway, with each step you lose Hunger Points. You could also become poisoned, and lose HP with every step you take as well. Running out of either will end your run. With each step you may also trigger an encounter often flanked with flavor text. You could encounter a child asking you to teach him a swear wo…

It was a great game. Finished it completely but wished it could of been longer. Would love some achievements and a story (also a pdf of the in game items; make this happen dev!) but definitely would give it a buy.

As straightforward as the game is, and how linear it is, it does exactly what it wants to be done well. It's definitely a short title that mostly focuses on repeat playthroughs for additional content, but I can recommend it as is.

Bonked some NPCs, exchanged valuable information with some sheep, avoided squishing a mouse or two and at the end saved a kingdom. 5/7 game experience!
