About Kor

Inspired by a variety of classic RPGs and Adventure games and developed by one person, Kor takes you on a journey through a unique alien world, battling enemies in an augmented-reality game that blends together turn-based strategy with execution-based button combos. The quicker you are, the more effective your attacks will be. Navigate your way through fast-paced puzzles and overcome foes to win the Kor tournament and prove that you deserve to become Chosen - rising above the exploitation that awaits those you defeated along the way!

Or not...

Features:

  • Attacks in schools of Nature, Fire, Water, Shadow, Earth, and Storm - each with their own playstyle, which you can mix and match!
  • A Warper that lets you teleport a short distance, allowing you to solve puzzles - and slip into places you shouldn't be.
  • A challenging intended difficulty, with an optional story mode.
  • Retro-style sprites, tiles, animations, interfaces, etc., all drawn pixel-by-pixel.
  • A true-to-style, non-standard base resolution of 160x144.
  • 21 different color palettes to choose from, changing the color of the whole game.
  • Manually assignable stat points you can tailor to suit your needs.
  • At least one NPC who will call you a "chumpling."
  • Easter eggs you'll probably never even see.

Cool and fun throwback to turn based games of yore, and I'm especially reminded of old-school Pokemon, and if you know me, you know I love me some old-school Pokemon. Plus, you get called a chumpling, and who wouldn't love that? I don't a whole lot of time, but I recommend it, and can see myself playing more and seeing just how deep and engaging this combat system gets.

I gotta play more of this game, it does such a great job at capturing the nostalgia of a Gameboy game with a lot of charm, thoughtful mechanics and puzzles, and ways to capture your attention. It is also surprisingly funny. Also, it is a controller friendly game and will recognize when you use a controller or a keyboard, which is so awesome. It is a bit of a slow game, but I like how it takes its time with things. The music is also great too. Highly recommend this game if you want to play a game that I wish was released on the Gameboy. I also wish it had compatibility with PortMaster. The Slug achievement made me laugh. Slug.

I was introduced to this game as being reminiscent of the early Pokemon games (from a graphics and UI standpoint), but I was still somehow not expecting it to be as nostalgic as it is. Not only does the art style generally remind me of some of those earliest videogames I played, but the music (created by Lewmoth) brought me back to various other games of a similar era. The button combos to execute attacks reminded me of classic fighting games. The ability to assign stat increases upon level up is, of course, a standard RPG feature. I'm sure there are other influences that I haven't seen yet. Some more modern or seemingly innovative choices I've noticed: the option to play with the intended difficulty setting or on a story/narrative difficulty; the warper to move beyond "out of bounds" areas is very fun; the sheer number of color palettes you can choose from to play in; the turn-based combat is actively engaging since you need to press buttons to execute your moves; being able to mix and match schools of moves which all seem to be pretty well-balanced. It's clear the creator cares about putting out a game that would be enjoyable and that he could be proud of. More than worth the …

fun combat system and a well done soundtrack 10/10 would recommend!

Good ideas, but really bogged down by slowness and delays, and by a combat system which feels like it is constantly punishing you. The combination of forcing you to wait all the time, and then basically killing you for not having lightning-speed reflexes, is more than a little ironic.

A short and interesting RPG built around an extremely tiny set of attacks you have to build together. Getting the big negative out of the way, some parts of the game are way too difficult. The battle system I didn't have too much of an issue with myself, but later on the game has some frustratingly tight platforming segments that shouldn't be this hard for an RPG that controls like an old Pokemon game. Also there's a side game that's just awful, but it's optional. Other than that, it's a pretty solid game with decent music. I wish there was a bit more to the story, but what's there works for what it is. I'd definitely recommend playing the easier mode if you have arthritis or have difficulty doing specific fast inputs.
