✦ AI summary

Players are divided on LAB.AR, with some finding it a worthwhile story-focused mystery experience with atmospheric exploration, while others criticize it as a poorly executed RPG Maker asset flip that suffers from confusing mechanics, unclear interactivity, clipping issues, and minimal gameplay depth. The game appears to prioritize narrative and atmosphere over polish and user experience, which appeals to some but frustrates those seeking clearer guidance and more polished mechanics.

Couldn't figure it out, seems broken. Sometimes I walked in the corridors, sometimes in the walls. No real indication f what can and cannot be interacted with. Just not any fun.

RPG Maker strikes again! LAB.AR is yet another construction kit template copy+paste from serial shovelware pushers, KuKo. This one is one of many hundreds of RPG Maker asset flips on Steam. These guys do nothing but copy premade game templates and game tutorials, fill out a few things/stamp out basic levels using the construction kit templates, slap on an asset flipped set of sprites/assets, and dump them on Steam and into cheap nasty shovelware game bundles as cash grabs. Trying to get paid for someone else's game templates, assets... at best, this is shovelware, at worst, it's a scam/cash grab. This isn't a sincerely made game, it's slapped together quickly with RPG Maker and features a bare bones "minimum viable product" gameplay sequence that you can plod through in a very short time. But the "developer" behind this is a known asset flip scammer, so should we be surprised? KuKo/Mustella Games have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. LAB.AR is a compact, story-focused adventure developed by KuKo in collaboration with Mustella Games and published by KuKo that aims to blend investigative gameplay with a subdued science-fiction mystery. Set within a quiet, unsettling research complex, the game places narrative atmosphere and gradual discovery above action or spectacle, positioning itself as an introspective experience where curiosity and patience are the primary tools available to the player. The story centers on Dr. Robert O’Neil, a scientist returning to a laboratory tied to the unexplained disappearance and death of his colleague and friend, Howard Deus. From the beginning, the game frames its mystery around personal loss as much as scientific uncertainty, using the sterile corridors of the facility as a backdrop for unanswered questions and fragmented memories. Rather than delivering its plot through dramatic cutscenes, LAB.AR unfolds its narrative slowly through environmental details, conversations, and written material scattered throughout the complex. This approach encourages players to piece together events themselves, reinforcing the sense that truth in this world is incomplete and obscured. Gameplay fo…
