About Laboratory

Laboratory is a game about a scientist fighting creatures that got out of control and destroying his lab.

Each creature is a boss battle designed to challenge your instinct and reflexes, and if you will succeed and manage to defeat one of them - you will be rewarded with a valuable upgrade to your character that will help you later on with your next fight.

And if you will (somehow) manage to overcome all 3 of the creatures - there will be a big bad one waiting for you to try and defeat it.

No in between levels - Overcome challenges - Win and get your new upgrades.

"Laboratory" is a mediocre and short 2D retro pixel platformer (sigh) with a focus on bossfights on each single screen level... making this really weak compared to more "serious" entries in the old, obsolete platformer genre. Take Hollow Knight, for example. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, j…

Super fun if you're up to the challenge. Fast-paced, great music to get you into it and great pixel art style

Quite cool! I love the bosses and their attack patterns, simple yet chalenging. Few things as a feedback. 1. There were a few minor bugs (restart button not working sometimes, game continuing after player's death (sometimes after your death game traps you on the death screen, but upon pressing esc two times you can still control your character on the background), and red slimes launching you off the screen if you jump+move before they hit you, and enter not working on the final door of the game). 2. Brain's idle attacks are very different in their difficulty, yet are random in order. This makes some attempts much easier than others, because during one you can straight up stand nearby and constantly hit it, and during another you need to run around the whole room. Perhaps it would be reasonable to put a spiral attack to be always first, this way boss would not be cheesed.
