On the Meta Quest 3, hands are not visible and opening doors / cabinets is borderline broken. Was looking forward to this title, having played the original many times, but left disappointed.

⭐ I don't normally give negative reviews and I don't like that my first one has to be on a game from Bloober Team who are one of my favorite developers but it can't be helped. I have played through the normal Layers of Fear multiple times in the past so I was really looking forward to experiencing it in VR however this game was ported to VR very poorly. I can't speak for other headsets but it is almost unplayable on the Metaquest. My hands were at first not visible until I found a work around in the controller settings, interacting with objects and doors was janky and didn't even work sometimes and there were many times where I could only move sideways and backwards but not forward. After looking online, it seems that many people have experienced similar issues with this title. It was a pain to get through and if I didn't want the 100% achievements, I would not have bothered to struggle past the first room. Really a shame because Bloober Team's Blair Witch VR worked great and was really enjoyable. I suspect however that this "Incuvo S.A." developer that they had port this one is to blame and not Bloober Team themselves.

Looks and runs great on Meta Quest 3, except you have no visible hands, making interaction impossible. I'm listing this game as recommended because it's just a VR port of the original, which was amazing, but it will be virtually unplayable on Meta Quest 3, and probably other sets, so check compatibility before buying, but if you have a compatible headset I recommend it highly.

I really wanted to play this game, as it's something I would definitely enjoy. Unfortunately, after loading the game, the VR hands were not visible, making it very difficult to interact with anything. I tried playing anyway, but got to a point where I needed to interact with a combination lock, but it was impossible to interact and set the correct combination. I had the combination, and knew what to do, but could not grab the lock to set it. These are apparently known issues as they are discussed on the game's discussion boards, but they have never been fixed. It may come down to the controller type you have, but for me, it was impossible to play and progress.

There is not much gameplay at all, you mostly just walk around and open doors, with occasional scary noise, a jump scare or a rare puzzle popping up.

You wander a Victorian mansion that keeps rearranging itself, and one second you’re curious… the next you’re questioning if even your eyes are real. I jumped, I stared at the walls, I seriously reconsidered my life choices mid‑walk.
