Overview:
Legends of Amberland II: The Song of Trees is a classic western RPG inspired by the games from the 90s like Might & Magic, Wizardry, Ultima, the Gold Box series and others. Using the classic first-person perspective, over grid movement, turn-based system to travel in an open world with fast travel options and a quick combat.
You lead a party of 7 adventurers, manually assembled or pre-made, on an epic adventure to fight the evil which lurks in Amberland. It's light, fairy tale, epic, heroic and slightly humorous. It does not take tons of hours to complete or require an endless grind to progress. Basically, it's a love letter from the 90s, the golden era of RPGs.

- First person perspective, 90 degree rotation, over grid movement (like in the 90s).
- Turn-based (both combat and exploration).
- Party-based (7 heroes, either predefined or manually assembled upon new game).
- Fast paced combat, especially blazing fast against much weaker enemies.

The game was designed to look and feel like one of the old games while working flawlessly on modern machines, especially on very high resolutions. It has very low hardware requirements and should run on even very old machines.

The Legends of Amberland titles can be played in any order you wish. They share the same world and lore (historical events) but each has a separate and self-contained story. There might be some mild references to events in the previous titles of the series, but more like a flavor, so it does not hinder the ability to play those in any order.

TL;DR Try the demo. If you can deal with the big-blob pixel art with no voice acting, there's a really fun game here. This fun party-based CRPG reminds me of Might and Magic 7. However, this game has good quality of life with easy inventory management and spell casting. Battles tell players what's going on and resolve quickly (hit f for a character to repeat the last action) but don't rush me (turn based). It has an innovative (or at least new to me) system of resistance to bad statuses, clearly explained when hovering with the mouse. Plenty here to satisfy, all of it explained simply. It allows saves out of combat, so finding out the hard way that that new enemy type is too tough is just a quick reload. It has a playable demo and adjustable difficulty levels. Party member spots 3, 4, and 5 are the front row, which is targeted by far the most. Spots 1, 2, 6, and 7 are flanks, targeted way less but included in AOE. Also great: on the big map screen, I can make short color-coded notes (red is too hard, green is complete., etc.) This REALLY helps find the specific NPC again, too, with a note like "Adv Body Build Trainer 2500g". I played the demo and enjoyed it enough to buy the full game! I have never played this genre of game before and though some reviews call it "basic," my experience is that it is a great level of complexity for new players to this style of game. A good on-ramp to "blobbers" and fun in its own right! I've just gotten to the Magic Store and the world has started to open up to my free-willed exploration; awesome!
Old School Party Turn-based RPG. No complaints
This a great sequel in a series I've enjoyed very much so far! I really enjoyed the Might and Magic games this series was graphically and spiritually based on, and it really brings the nostalgia feels for me!
