MANIC is a 2D retro pixel top down twin stick shooter with some mild adventure game elements as you walk around, talk to some people and kite waves and waves of zombie/psycho/whatevers to get revenge on them for murdering your family while you were off murdering deer, which is, or was, your daytime job. What fun. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. While there's options to change the resolution for the game, these don't really "work", they just change various aspects of the jaggy pixel asset scaling, but there's no way to get rid of the bad graphics, and there's no other tweaks that might help gamers improve the godawful lazy visuals. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. + Atmosphere and coloring are nice. - unlimited respawning enemies. Now, this sounds like a minor complain, but for me it destroys the game. There are so many "killer"-games out there because killing enemies brings satisfaction. When I kill enemies that are respawning anyway, I question the meaning of my behavior and realize that it's futile (pretty much the same realization that I had when I was a little child slaughtering ants like mad). There is no satisfaction at all for me under these circumstances. Just imagine Gauntlet or Diablo with unlimited respawning enemies. ---SPOILER--- Story at the beginning was something like that: [spoiler]- you go hunting, come back and see that your family got murdered - you go to next village, most people dead, you find a survivor - you say: "everything will be okay". - Sure...[/spoiler]

I've played and finished the Game Jolt version of this game before I discovered that it also has a steam page, the mechanics and the whole game-play in general is truly amazing, weapon choices and play style is very diverse and graphics are of a reminiscent combination of Papers Please, Broforce and some classic horror, the story was great and the "endless mode" is addictive. It feels like a crime to be able to play this game for free! I'd love to see some form of multiplayer, whether it is online or local shared against both controller and keyboard, but still great nonetheless!

Сложность нарастает постепенно, но даже самые первые уровни бросают вызов вашей реакции и скорости принятия решений. Управление интуитивно понятное, что позволяет сразу же погрузиться в игровой процесс. Разнообразие врагов и препятствий не дает заскучать, а таблица лидеров подстегивает к улучшению собственных результатов и соревнованию с другими игроками. Хоть игра и короткая, реиграбельность зашкаливает – постоянно хочется пройти еще раз и улучшить результат. Однако, иногда из-за высокой скорости происходящего, становится сложно следить за всем одновременно. Некоторым игрокам может показаться, что игра слишком сложная, но именно это и делает ее такой захватывающей. 'MANIC' - это отличный выбор для тех, кто ищет быстрый, напряженный и увлекательный опыт.
