Mars is a much more mysterious planet than meets the eye. Its underworld is riddled with natural caves and tunnelsof a subterranean base.
Once in the secret laboratory, our captured hero managed to deal with the alien and avoid probing. However, this is only the very beginning of his adventures on the Red Planet!
Throughout the game you will have to explore every nook and cranny of the underground base, collect all the alien artifacts, avoid cunning traps and find a way to return home.

Playing Marsmare: Alienation, you will face a variety of enemies.
Among them are:
Each enemy requires a special approach: our hero is extremely limited in resources, so one awkward move and you'll have to return to the checkpoint.

While exploring the alien base, you will discover special items: a blaster, a space suit and a jetpack. Each item will add new abilities and open the way to previously inaccessible areas.
To escape from Mars, you'll need to find the alien flying saucer (yes, yes, the same one on which you were kidnapped!), collect all the energy crystals and fuel.
Marsmare: Alienation was developed specifically for the ZX Spectrum retro computer and took first place at the Yandex Retro Games Battle 2020 competition. And now there’s a special PC version of the game to allow as many gamers as possible to play it!
The game features two graphical modes: classic and modern. This means you can play both the original version of Marsmare: Alienation and enjoy the updated, full-color pixel graphics.
Collect items, shoot back enemies, jump over chasms, and learn to avoid dangerous traps. Save the game by activating checkpoints.

This very short microvania is really boring to play. It isn't very exploratory - mostly funneling you one way.3 found this helpful
Great little metroidvania.1 found this helpful
Super fun mini-metroidvania! You are basically running through an interconnected spaceship, slowly gaining new abilites (I think there was about 4), grabbing collectibles, killing enemies, and making your way to the escape ship. It's very simple but it does it all well. I was really happy that it has a map, not only perfecly detailed for navigation but also marks missing items, doors, etc. So, it's a good game for my fellow completionists. If you enjoy 1-2 hour metroidvanias, this is totally worth the price. If you want other games like this, check out 100 Pumpkins 1 and 2, Satan Loves Cake, Tank-o, or LXD Red Honey (the last three are only on itch.io).1 found this helpful
I am waiting for this game to arrive on ZX Spectrum Next and backed the kickstarter. Its now arrived on Steam as a stop gap (and to help with development on Next), Won't say no to a free Steam key while I wait!! You can switch between ZX Spectrum graphics and "Next" in the settings. Great soundtrack, lovely retro graphics and addictive gameplay. Well done guys!1 found this helpful
Solid metroidvania... although I have to admit, I got stumped within the first ten minutes of playing this one, and could not figure out how to progress. Obviously, this is not my preferred genre of game, lol.
