Matchmaker: Dungeon Heart

I want to give this game a positive review because I love the concept but I am maybe an hour or two into the game and I've seen a litany of bugs from repeating dialogues to visual glitches that require a game restart to clear. When you see a game has left EA you kind of expect it to be at least a little polished particularly towards the beginning of the game.

I've only reached 15 days in-game so far but I truly adore the game so far. My favorite thing out of the way first, the voice-acting is really charming even from voice actors I may not have heard of before. It's very high-quality, charming and makes the characters come to life. That brings me to my next favorite part, the characterization of the different residents of the dungeon is surprisingly realistic for such an outlandish setting. I've felt butterflies sitting in a worm-lit cavern with Calyx the vampire herbalist/medic, and I was so happy to drink tea every day with AJ the minotaur with the heart of gold. To this extent, when the dungeon was under attack I was genuinely concerned for the characters, and the unease that the attack left in the dungeon was palpable. I'm personally a big fan of match-3 games and this one does not disappoint. I find myself having to pause for the day when I become overwhelmed, rather than bored, from the day-to-day life in the game's setting, and that is a great thing for a game like this to have. It's a cute game about being a skeleton who's tasked with protecting a lich's dungeon. All the while you get to train with and get to know the fellow denizens - all of whom are fun takes on the stereotypical monsters. They're all charming and cute in their own way. The gameplay loop of training with everyone via the match-3 battle system is fun and straightforward - because if you win a match your training partner gets stronger, if they win, you get stronger via better rewards. All the while you have the forces of light hanging over your head. Also there's some great humour if you ever need a chuckle.

Here you play as a newly dead creature of the night who is tasked with the role of protecting the dungeon from the land of the living. You learn that the monsters that reside here aren't really the danger - the humans are! Help your new friends with tasks, build up friendships (and maybe more), and develop your talents as a gem-wielding powerhouse that will keep this dark world safe. The characters are very sweet, even if the game is quite buggy from time to time.

Relaxing and chill match-tree game! I really enjoy this, the variety of characters feels natural. Playing this game feels like a breath of fresh air. Love it.
