Misery Street

Pretty good. I've yet to finish Misery Street, but after my +20h of playtime I can already tell that the dialogues are clever and have a good sense of humor that has resonated with me. The game has the right balance between taking itself seriously -but not too seriously. Not too goofy and not too edgy. Combat-wise it's fine. Nothing groundbreaking, as you would expect, but fresh enough, and several memorable fights would make up for it. Same goes for the soundtrack. I should mention that there still are performance problems in big areas where the fps drop, but the developer is aware of it and keeps updating the game to this day. If you're considering buying it, I'd say go ahead; you do get a lot out of the current price.

"Misery Street" is a single-dev indie RPG that takes quite some inspiration from the genre veterans "Lisa" and "Undertale" and - who would have guessed - "Earthbound", but still manges so stand on it's own foot. It is the story about an edgy teenager on an limbo-esque journey to find the meaning of life and it's misery bouncing back and forth from being cringe and earnest at the same time... an odd mix. Liked the worldbuilding and the spritework (although being sometimes a tad amateurish, no offense); it has a style of its own. The combat and RPG elements are quite run-of-the-mill but I liked the myriads of wacky items and consumables that you find along the way. The tracks are also good but I heard some of them in different games now (the developers "caiys" and "sylph" also used these), which is a little irritating, but they are good and fitting and props for the composer for these 8-bit bangers and the dev that remixed them (I guess). The fourth wall breaking is also not exactly new, but poingnant in it's timing and therefore somewhat fresh.  Another thing to mention: There are a LOT of typos! Please play Misery Street, its worth your time and plus its cheap to buy. Its best to play blind, and hope for the best while exploring Misery Street. If your not comfortable with cursing, and frontal nudity, skip this game.

Cinema

This game is perfect. Its got a lot of sidequests and endless possibilities. It also changes on your second playthrough, I dont even have words to describe how full of things to explore it is and how charismatic the story and characters are. It also got a nice story inspired by some great RPGs without just copying it or falling into some cliches. Its been my favorite game in this last month, I truly cant believe how this game its not being talked about by everyone.

I felt like leaving a short review, as there are so few of them for such a criminally overlooked game. Misery Street is a classic JRPG style game with an aesthetic that is fondly reminiscent of old computer games. The story deals with various existential ideas like the meaning of life and coping with the indifference of the universe. The main story was pretty entertaining, but what really got me invested was the various people you meet along the way. The citizens of Misery Street also struggle to find the meaning of life, and the answers they settle on range from humorous to downright depressing. The gameplay is simple and satisfying, both in combat and the overworld. The combat is turn-based, and each of the characters utilizes different equipment and resources that makes them play distinctly from one another. The exploration of the world rewards you with all kinds of goodies if you take the time to check everywhere and talk to everyone, and it was very satisfying. Even after completing the game I still felt like there was so much more to find and do, which is great because the game also includes a new game plus of sorts.
