A Plunge into Darkness

I can not in good faith recommend this game. At multiple points the game forces the player painfully search multiple maps desperately trying to find how to progress. The dev has made every effort to hide how to progress, either relying on the paid for guide, or in an attempt to force players to buy the guide. At no point is the progression spot for entering the underwater passage HINTED at in game with text- no clues are given, no sparkle or marker. It is purely progress through the entire map to date attempting to press action on every square- and that is the 5th time such a thing happened in my playthrough. I wanted to enjoy this game. I truly wanted to recommend it. However with the for sale guides, combined with this horrible game design failing- I can not. I hate to give an indie developer a negative review like this, but it is frankly completely earned by said developer's actions and choices.

A Plunge into Darkness is a horror-themed role-playing game developed and published by Aldorlea that embraces a straightforward but effective concept: a casual night among friends unexpectedly turns into a battle for survival. The setting itself does much of the storytelling, presenting a place that feels forgotten and ominous long before the true threat becomes apparent. I'm a bit on the fence with this one. The game had excellent art and the game play was relatively challenging. I never lost a fight but I came close so that was fun. Now as for the story you are a group of DND players / larping that got caught up in a real haunted house/ castle. There isn't much explanation to why this is. The story mainly focuses on how these people react to the now confirmed existence of magic and how its try to kill them. The ending disappointed me as all the character interactions don't pay off at all. Whats more alot of the dilalogue seemed awkwardly worded to me alot of the time. Regardless I enjoyed it enough to give it a recommendation.
