6/10 | Intriguing | Comedic | Unique. Mole Maiden is a 2D based game to which you attempt to become the Burrow League Champion! You'll fight your way through various enemies/boss battles & much more in this bizarre yet incredibly well done Indie game. I'm not entirely certain how many developers created this but I believe it to be a small team. [I could be mistaken!] Whilst I only played one hour of this game, it felt fluent, intriguing, enjoyable from start to finish of my experience and had me laughing on multiple occasions at the odd & silly humour in all the best ways possible. I absolutely yearn for some comedy in games time to time and this has exactly that. They did an excellent job. I definitely would like to check this out in the future and play through the entire game when I have more time. - Grab the demo, check it for yourself. OK, so this game does work afterall. Still, I can't recommend it. This is a metroidvania version of Pepper Grinder. Your goal is to kill 4 bosses and then challenge your sister to become the champion. Unfortunately it is quite rough around the edges and and the map is very poorly designed, revealing everything in a biome with no fog of war all at once while simultaneously having no user markers. This combination makes exploration unenjoyable and backtracking extremely annoying.

WTF Did they really need to make that dude’s butt jiggle sound like that? When I first saw the email from Tastie Games with “bossavania” in the subject line, I tilted my head in puzzlement and was curious to know what that meant exactly, so I took a look. The press release included stills, accolades and a brief description of the new genre, stating “It combines the strategic, puzzle-like boss fights of games like Punch-Out!! with the freedom and exploration of a metroidvania.” While there aren’t quite enough novel ideas to say that it truly did establish a new genre, the devs clearly put a lot of love into it, and I enjoyed many aspects of their work. The premise is centered around a girl who belongs to an underground-dwelling society and must endure a rite of passage which involves collecting medals from four area captains.
