About Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2

✦ AI summary

Slash your way through a demonic stronghold as the swordsman Zangetsu in this retro 2D action game that lets you recruit allies and swap between characters with unique abilities to tackle stages in multiple ways. Team up with a friend in new 2-player local co-op or go solo through Koji Igarashi's story-driven campaign packed with classic 8-bit charm and modern playability.

Koji Igarashi and Inti Creates are back with more retro sword-and-whip action!

Curse of the Moon 2 brings classic 2D action and a dark, 8-bit aesthetic together with modern playability. The multiple-scenario structure of the previous title returns with an epic new story supervised by IGA (Koji Igarashi) himself.

Players take control of Zangetsu, a swordsman from the far east who bears a deep grudge against demonkind and the alchemists who summoned them. Zangetsu must battle his way to the demonic stronghold, but he doesn't have to do it alone! Zangetsu can ally himself with a brand new cast of characters he meets along the way and add them to the playable roster.

Three brand-new playable characters appear in Curse of the Moon 2, including the exorcist Dominique. All characters from the original Curse of the Moon game are playable, too! Each new character adds a variety of gameplay options, abilities, and ways to complete the games' many stages.

Players can also create demon hunting duos in 2-player local co-op, available for the first time in the series! Work together with a friend, mix and match the strengths of two different characters, and conquer stages in tons of new and exciting ways.

Well, my feelings here are same as in the prequel. Art and music are really charming and nice. Vibes are great. Story is good enough, Characters actually had a glowup, as in they actually seem more real. New interactions between them are a really good addition. But when it comes to gameplay...I actually think this one is worse than the prequel. The difficulty is almost comically high, and I was playing on casual. I guess potentially a skill issue, or more like patience issue in my case, as my main strategy is to just rush the boss and sit in their face rather than wait for my turn, but still, it made the game ten times more frustrating than the last one. Controls also are bugged for keyboard a bit. Still, I think if someone for some reason is into the outdated retro gameplay, then this is probably a fantastic game. I still liked it for everything else, so I won't give a negative, plus I was well aware of what I was getting into, and I know it is what the devs were aiming for. But that aside, I won't be coming back.

Im a big fan of retro style games, but sometimes they just dont feel right. This game looks & sounds great, but theres just something about it that doesnt connect with me. Just feels souless & lifeless, empty & boring. I quit on stage 5. Not because its too hard or anything, but just felt boring. Overall id only give it a 5/10 because i love retro themed games & feel the type of art style needs to make a come back... But just not like this

A lovely sequel to the first game. Don't be fooled by the hours, I played this on a different console and beated it already. The story goes in absolutely insane directions. If you know you know. More fun and exciting levels to trek through, challenging boss encounters. 3 new characters to play as! (With Zang being the returning fourth) all with their own playstyles of course. More wonderful music. Once again, definitely big recommend for fans of platformers and castlevania in general

Bloodstained is back and might as well be better than the first one. Taking Castlevania as it's working ground once again, particulary the third one (Dracula's Curse), with branching paths, different diverse characters and dynamic difficulty. It's cheeky that it makes you go through the game twice to see the actual ending, kinda like a game plus, thing is you have to get the sword the second run otherwise you get the bad ending, didn't realize this up until it was too late and that might be the only shortcoming I have with it, you know, the fact that you have to repeat it all again as replayability value, other than that it's as good if not better than the first one. 4/5

Only disclaimer here is that the game is that the game is an homage to old-school Castlevania, consists of stages, and is NOT a metroidvania. If you're cool with this style of game, you'll probably have a good time with it. This game also offers a nice increase in difficulty compared to its predecessor especially with the bosses. EDIT: Despite the small size of the game, it experiences optimization issues from time to time after playing for a while and the game will slow down to about a third of its normal speed. Fix this and I'd be ecstatic.
