Story

“...Now, let’s begin my world.”

Remilia Scarlet, head vampire of the Scarlet Devil Mansion sends her maid Sakuya Izayoi with no warning to a world much like Gensokyo, but not quite.

A world full of strange places, filled with strange youkai and her time manipulation sealed.
What could Remilia’s end game be...?

What's special about this game

・Time stop system from character's Ability and Gimmick maps that use special abilities like time stop.
・Adapt the "graze" system of the Touhou Project into a 2D game, giving you a sense of tension in approaching to the enemy.
・Graphics that bring out the appeal of Touhou world, such as attractive dot Graphics.

A word from the publisher

Team Ladybug began with "Pharaoh Rebirth," continuing with other enjoyable games including "Resurrection of Beldia" and "Shin Megami Tensei SYNCHRONICITY PROLOGUE."
Since, I have been waiting in anticipation for their next project.

This time, they have created a fan fiction game based off the world-renowned "Touhou Project."
From the background to the character's movements and various skills, one can feel the creator's passion for games and love of the Touhou project.

While it has a Metroidvania style, the game can easily progress without the insistence of repeat elements or collecting items. This has resulted in a spectacular game born from the game production skills cultivated by Team Ladybug.

And I personally want to highlight the beauty of the anime sprite.
You can see the attention to detail the creator put into not only the leading character's movements, but the effects and enemy characters.

Touhou Luna Nights is not only for Touhou fans but one that can be enjoyed by anyone who loves 2D action games.

Throughout my time with this game, I am amazed at just how many good things this game does as a smaller-scale fangame that’s derivative from the Touhou Series. This game blends the elements from the mainline games with the metroidvania formula so well it creates such an interesting and unique gameplay experience that you don’t really find anywhere else in the genre.
The Gameplay
You play as Sakuya Izayoi, the head maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and with her ability to manipulate time with her pocket watch, she can turn the tides of combat into her favor. In this game, your basic attacks cost MP and she throws out her signature knives, and this meter slowly recovers over time, or you can opt to graze the enemy by standing close to them without touching or getting hit. This creates a sense of risk reward to where you might sometimes need to purposely get close to the enemy to be able to continue dealing damage. Where the combat and exploration gets pretty interesting is when you gain the ability to both slow down time, and stop time completely. Slowing down time gives you more opportune time to avoid attacks or navigate tricky sections easier, and stopping time allows…

Simply peak one of the most polished indie games I've ever played with mechanics that seem simple but have a lot going on under the surface. It's somewhat short but with the addition of the extra stage it ends up feeling just the right lenght and most importantly the game is quality from beginning to end. The only thing you could call a downside is that by metroidvania standards the exploration is pretty weak, I'd even hesitate to call this a metroidvania since there's barely any exploration or mandatory backtracking, there are character upgrades but you'll get all of them by simply playing, exploring is mostly to get upgrades to stats or ocasionally a new sub-weapon. In a sense its more of a 2D platformer with 1 gigantic stage. Personally I didn't find this to be a problem at all just be aware of this going in in case you're a combatslop vs explorationslop metroidvania player.

Great fun game, I recommend it! Can be difficult if only playing with base tools only, but good exploration and trial and error can lead to some very powerful combinations! Great art and music and extremely interesting powerset for a main character.
