Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon

Love letter to Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse, and it's not even subtle: choosing how to proceed within a stage, having multiple main characters and even the backward jump when being hit! It's not an especially hard title, but it's got a lot of charm. Miriam is my beloved honorary belmont.

A really good game, i believe it is so objectivally, however I am extremely conflicted here. Music and art are absolutely amazing. Story and characters are fine, nothing crazy. Vibes are immaculate. And on the first playthtrough, the entire thing was shining. However every replay made me see more and more how much I dislike the style of game this is. I understand that it is retro, I understand it might be nostalgic. But for me, as someone who never lived to play those early games, combat and platforming are simply atrocious. Arguably worst I have seen, and I have played a wide array of platformers. The lack of control over the character is simply infuriating, Bosses are extremely good looking visually, plus with their respective arenas. And they are fine on first playthrough, but as you go, you really begin to see that some are just not made for the type of game it is. I won't spoil too much, but there are a couple of bosses which are extremely frustrating to fight, purely because they can fly out of range. If you're doing a run of all characters, you'll be fine. A game that definitely does a great job in paying homage to castlevania while doing its own thing, fun and challenging levels? Check. Four amazing characters with their own playstyles? Check. A bopping OST? Check. If you are a fan of og castlevania styles fun you might enjoy this a lot. I can definitely recommend this game easily to platformer enjoyers
