About MOONROT

When an alarming anomalous signal was detected from the moon of Keres-2b, astronomers were eager to explore immediately. You were created for this purpose - a fully autonomous rover named HOPE.Collect data from the sites of interest, uncover the source of the Signal, and complete your mission. There may be a chance for mankind just yet.
  • Take up the role of a hastily constructed rover - drive across rocky terrain to take grainy photos and record crackly signals, and conserve battery power to survive.
  • Traverse an eerie, desolate landscape - the moon of Keres-2b is a lonely, quiet place, but it's not without its dangers.
  • A short horror game lasting roughly an hour.

its like irong lung but instead of a submarine you are a rover. the controls are fine but the movement sometimes feels a bit wobbly or janky when there are little holes/bumps in the ground or you have to go through narrow corridors which i think its the intended feeling so idk it make a decent job at maintaining the tension through the game (although those little sparks that move the rover ended up being more annoying and tedius than unsettling) but i feel like there could have been more things. like when i saw my light was flickering i thought there was going to be a section where my light would go off and i needed to use the camera to light up things in front of me, (similar to irong lung but without having to rely 100% on the photo) or like a section where the coordinates disappear and you have to use the antenna to locate the site or something like that but nope, its just drive from side to side. still, it scared me, it was nice, it was short (1 hour) its a decent experience for its price.

Should be boring but isn't. Love the little guy.

Short, but it does what it's trying to do pretty well. It's not super hard so long as you can keep a general sense of direction. If you like scary games and have an hour or so to burn, I don't see why not. Shame it didn't get more popular.

I wanted to like this game, because the premise is super interesting - there's so much you can do with a lonely moon rover photographing creepy space rocks. But the execution just does not hold up. Controls are ROUGH, and it may be by design, piloting a moon rover isn't *easy* exactly, but the turning just felt abysmal and had me careening into cliffs and off of craters several times. The only real "punishment" is getting sent back to the last sunlight checkpoint, which isn't awful, but some of the anomaly locations are VERY far from these points so you lose a lot of time if you crash. The atmosphere was good and creepy, for the most part, but my frustration with the controls unfortunately shattered any buildup attempted. A couple peeks of an alien, some anomalous structures, some weird sounds, all good stuff but nothing incredibly scary. This is going to sound unfair. I love this whole game genre of "isolated and lost trying to find anomalies while the scares ramp up to absurdity", but the concept deserves iteration, not imitation. While only being relatively an hour-or-shorter, Moonrot is just Iron Lung but Again. It doesn't bring anything new to the concept outside of being…

Really enjoyed my time with this game, I found the tension of battery management and quiet, creeping suspense pretty effective. I'm a little disappointed that some of the story elements dropped in the leadup to release didn't make it in, I really liked some of the details about the moon that were in those little videos.

Some eerie concepts but not much to chew on or any connective tissue.
