About Move Code Lines

Move Code Lines is a puzzle game where you fix programs and make them print needed output. But the only way you can achieve that is to change the order of lines in those programs, and set custom input.

  • Find your way through a maze of code in more than 130 puzzles
  • Work with arrays, conditions, loops and functions
  • Change speed, or even pause execution, and watch programs working line by line
  • The most difficult levels require writing your own utility programs outside the game that will help you solve puzzles
Programming language that you will interact with is ChaiScript. It is very similar to Python and JavaScript, but it's another language.

At first, it's a nice little practise of rearranging lines of code to (maybe) learn some programing concepts (even thought about using at school). But at chapter 6 it becomes so ridiculously complicated with both matching lines but also being smart enough to find the required inputs. Function names aren't any help, they contradict naming conventions of every programing language and don't show good coding. It would be much more of an aha experience, if there were any hints, where the code should lead to. No level names, not even a manual to find all meanings of the get_xx() functions. Not to mention the math concepts behind the later levels. Maybe the dev just wanted to cope a university trauma, fair enough. But it's really a pain and not very engaging for people new to coding.

This game has literal "what number am I thinking?" type puzzles. Here's a tip for puzzle designers: If it's easier for you to come up with the puzzle than it is for someone else to come up with a solution; that's a bad puzzle.

Not good on Legion Go S. Was hoping for something to play on lunch breaks but there is no controller support at all from what I can tell. I tried streaming from my LeGoS to my laptop, using a mouse, but that wasn't ideal.

Never thought I would enjoy a game like this, but I just played for 2.5 hours straight and having a blast.
