Evoland is a journey through the history of action/adventure gaming, allowing you to unlock new technologies, gameplay systems and graphic upgrades as you progress through the game.
Inspired by many cult series that have left their mark in the RPG video gaming culture, Evoland takes you from monochrome to full 3D graphics and from active time battles to real time boss fights, all with plenty of humor and references to many classic games.
Evoland 2 graphics style is changing as you travel through time and its gameplay evolves as you move along the storyline. It is also a real RPG at heart, with a deep scenario based on time travel: explore different eras and change the history of the world. Evoland 1 is brief and charming, worth a normal playthrough. Evoland 2 is drastically more expanded upon the concepts of 1, turning the breadth of game styles into a delightful love letter to the medium. Evoland 1 had some glaring bugs, ranging from run-of-the-mill jank to achievements not proccing the first time around. Evoland 2's bugs were not nearly as hindering, mostly being the rare visual issue. Any actual gameplay bugs were far less punishing, as save points are significantly more frequent. Evoland 1 has some achievements gated by rough RNG and very unfun grinds. There are also hidden collectables, with some behind completely unmarked false walls. I would recommend only going for a normal playthrough to experience the concepts, finishing in an hour or two. Evoland 2 also has hidden collectables, but the hiding places are mostly intuitive to find even without the later game assist mechanic. The grind-style achievements are either probable to occur eventually from normal gameplay, or are very fast to knock out. 100% completion was doable in 20-25 hours, and I enjoyed the full experience.

Oodles of fun here. Some of the old annoyances of console games are here again: music loops that slowly drill into your brain until you finish a level, things ro defeat which don't seem to want to be defeated (and send you back to a point in the level), plus an ability to suck time out of your day before you've realized what you've done. HOORAY! It's just like the old days! BOOO! It's just like the old days!

This edition packages together Evoland 1 and 2. Evoland 1 is short and sweet. Worth playing through. Evoland 2 is also a good game, although much larger. It does start to drag a bit, as it runs for quite a while. But it is still good throughout. And it mixes up the style of game you go through, since it runs you through, not only, the story of the characters, but also, in a way, a homage to the story of video games, as it references a few different genres.

First one I appreciated the idea but didn't like it. The second one I was enjoying a lot more...then the platforming came. What a pain in the ass useless part 😅
