About No Retreat! The Russian Front
NO RETREAT
This game is a Strategic game on the Eastern Front of World War II.It is a digital port from the famous and eponym boardgame, No retreat!, designed by Carl Paradis, which retells the story of the titanic struggle between the invading armies of Nazi Germany versus Communist Russia during WW2 at a player-friendly and manageable level of scope and difficulty. With only 70 Army/Front sized counters for the whole campaign, and with very low stacking, it’s a quick-playing yet realistic affair that favours the strategic and offensive-minded player. The moderate complexity of the game, the light number of armies and the contained size of the map allows easier onboarding, fast play and fun experience. In a skillfully blended collation of classic hex-based wargaming and modern card-driven simulations, No Retreat: The Russian Front stays truly story-centric, providing the proper feel of sweeping maneuvers, exploitation and encirclements across the vast steppes and forests of Russia. With a simple-yet-innovative economic model, players will also feel the growing might and sophistication of the Russian’s Red Army, and the degradation of the once-invincible German Wehrmacht, over the epic four year sweep of time that this merciless campaign was fought.See the Axis hordes deeply invade Russia and encircle ill-prepared Soviet units.Watch the Red army resist and slowly acquire experience to finally push back the Germans up to Berlin ! Each turn is alight with intriguing on-board challenges plus the surprise of 55 cards hand Events as players vie to win in one of three different ways.SCALE

What Steam players say

Players praise the game as a faithful and accessible adaptation of a classic board game with intuitive mechanics and good AI, though some highlight new card additions and smooth online play features. However, the PC version suffers from stability issues and bugs that can crash the game mid-session, with the experience being inconsistent depending on when you launch it. Despite these technical problems, those who can get it running find it an enjoyable and well-balanced wargame that respects both casual and experienced players.
I played a fair amount of this game using the GMT title (and the one before GMT made it pretty) My son and I have had some memorable games when he was still a kid. (He 23 now) This seems to work quite well. A few things with the interface I needed to figure out, and I missed the turn record chart and some of the other odds and ends that appear on the game board of the paper copy. All that said, the game plays well and I found no glitches. I beat the AI on turn 9, but did not handicap it so I suspect it will give you a good game with a bit of tweaking. Also. although my memory might be faulty I think this PC version added some new cards, and they are good additions. Keep at it! For something this new I am impressed. Thanks all.1 found this helpful
Extremely faithful reproduction of the board game. Very, very good introductory wargame for someone teaching someone else how to play. This is THE Eastern Front gateway drug, LOL! I own the board game. Love it, and this makes it easy to play in one sit down.1 found this helpful
Old Man attempts what should be a simple game. No. Actually used a deck of cards here so they did not have to do the appropriate programming. Card decks went out in the 50s. Disgusting. Instructions inadequate-you just do not know which buttons to push when. Detailed instructions to get through 2 turns would help greatly. Game not ready, and after watching a online video I'm still in the dark. I will wait to try this one again when they have come into the 2020s. BTW, to make the game more interesting make more hexes on the map so a sense of progress takes a little longer. Waiting for fixes.
The rules are not clear & the AI is very in favor of Russia.
very pleasant game and very intuitive for new players
Can feel janky at times but is really fun
