It's not BAD, but it didn't really feel like it had substance. Didn't fall in love with any of the characters, didn't care about the setting, didn't feel like my choices made a huge impact, esc. Overall it's a well written STORY but it shouldn't have been a choose your own adventure game. I don't really feel like I went on an adventure. Or chose anything.10 found this helpful
Another masterpiece from Choice of Games, Claudia Sterling's attention to visual and atmospheric detail brings to life a dark noir New Orleans, in [u]NOLA is Burning[/u]. Weird as all hell, and kind of disappointing. It's like... Imagine watching a generic noir mafia movie set in the late 90's/early 2000's. After taking drugs. All of the drugs. It's like the most random crap is thrown at you constantly, while one has very little choie in the matter. One seems to die at the end of the game no matter what one does, and... Really, it's just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.6 found this helpful
I will be entirely honest out the gate; This game is far, far too short, and has an abrupt, and annoying conclusion, that forces you into one of very few categories. While I DO recommend this for those who enjoy COG Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style games, I warn anyone that it will not end how you think it will, and is simply... Bland. I had initially fallen in love with this game after playing the demo some odd years ago on the COG website, having liked the Mobster theme, and the setting and general premise were all top tier, in my opinion. So, upon seeing it finally up on steam, I jumped at the chance to buy it, alongside a few other games that caught my interest. My hopes were high, due to loving the demo so much. However... (( Spoilers Ahead, please do mind them )) A majority of the game IS the demo. After the demos end, there is barely anything left afterwards to play, and nothing that truly affects your ending in any material way. Or, at least, none that I could see after being forced to replay the game over and over and over again, due to not having the right stats to achieve the endings I was attempting. I loved it. If you are interested in the games from Choice of Games, you'll probably like this one. It seems a little like a Martin Scorsese film, mixed with some other genre that may not be expected too much, without giving any spoilers away... Hopefully I didn't give any away... But yeah, check it out. Especially fun if you care for Mafioso films. Claudia Starling, if you read this, excellent job on the story.1 found this helpful
Yeah this game felt like an acid trip. But an acid trip written by Ken Kesey so, you know, I had a good time. Probably not what you're looking for if you want a mafia/mobster/gangster game, but if you want a no-holds-barred adrenaline-fuelled thrill-ride with good grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, this'll do very nicely. And you won't have to do any paperwork afterwards.
