A Visual Novel set in the Deadlands Noir RPG Setting from Savage Worlds. * Now updated to include Episode 1 and 2 * New Orleans, 1935. Whoever called this "The Big Easy" sure got that one wrong. Things are tough all over. Honest work is hard to find, and even dishonest jobs are getting scarce. The one thing that's not in short supply is trouble. From shady thugs to crooked cops to mafia soldiers, there's plenty of characters out there looking to give an honest Joe a hard time. And that's not the worst of it. There are stories going round about things that go bump in the night. Things you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley on a darker night. And those stories aren't just coming from rummies or saps who read that epitaph rag. Still, there are a few heroes left in the concrete jungle. Steely-eyed private dicks, fast-talking grifters, wild-eyed inventors, and shadowy houngans still struggle against the encroaching darkness. Players are divided on this visual novel experience. Fans of the noir and paranormal setting appreciate the shorter stories and find the Deadlands universe compelling, with some willing to overlook the barebones nature of the narratives for the low price. Critics, however, argue that adapting an RPG universe into a visual novel was a poor choice, citing weak hand-drawn artwork and underdeveloped storytelling, and express frustration that this format lacks meaningful gameplay despite the potential for a full RPG.
Deadlands Noir is a visual novel set in the RPG universe for the same name (set in Narlean, 1935). I think if you have a full RPG universe, the obvious decision to make if you want to make a video game set in that universe, you would make an RPG. Because RPGs, when done properly, sell really well. So the developers here decided to take an RPG universe and make a visual novel, one of the poorest performing formats on Steam, in no small part because visual novels [b]are not games[/b]. For those who love visual novels (and thus don't know about public libraries), this one is a very bad one. The hand drawn art is at "grade 11 art class dropout, did the whole class in MS paint" level. In case anyone needs any more assurance here, the story is bad, and the developers couldn't work out how to make fullscreen work properly. Not hard to do, but let's face it, if you have a rich RPG tabletop game and decide that the best video game for it is a VN, basic things like "making the video game work properly" are going to elude you.3 found this helpful

Two short stories. I didn't realise this was a couple of short stories with sporadic choices in story paths, but when I started it I wanted to find out more. The first story was interesting with a supernatural element that becomes aparent. Being a shoert story, it's quitre barebones, but serves to show the noir artwork. I enjoyed the second story less as it soon became apparent that it was anti Crusades. It takes a negative view of the great Crusades and twists certain noble leaders into negative demons. As we all know, the Crusades were a great fight for victory from the evils of Islam and the rapidly expanding enslavement of that warped religion. Europe was in danger of becoming lost to the darkness which had already gained control of Jerusalem and the holy lands. So a story that is anti Crusader was not for me. I would like to give a middle rating rather than a 'recommend' or 'not recommend', because as mentioned, the artwork is pretty good. OK, as it's cheap, I'll recommend but with strong reservations. Deus Vult!
For two bucks, you're getting two good stories and very little risk for a "game over" in the traditional sense - worth it.
