Nurikabe World

Nurikabe has quickly become one of my favourite puzzles after learning about it through a daily puzzle game called Thinky Dailies (it rotates puzzle types, and one day it happened to be introducing Nurikabe). The way you place down walls (rivers, in this game) to create rooms (islands) is simple but quickly leads to interesting logic as you have to consider reachability, connection, and whether you're going to create any 2x2s. Desiring more Nurikabe to sate my ever-growing hunger for these puzzles, I went searching for games, upon which I landed on this one. It met all of my expectations for a game of this nature. It has a good amount of puzzles, split into multiple campaigns, which ramp up in difficulty very nicely. The first campaign is all about teaching the basics, but people who are already familiar with the puzzle and techniques for solving can just skip through quickly while newbies are taught the rules and mechanics. Then later puzzles start introducing different hints and tips for solving more complex puzzles. My first experience with logic puzzle was Minesweeper but I was not quite satisfied with how I wandering around empty spaces and working on the individual cluster of mines around tons of numbers. There was a time that I explored other logic puzzles and one of the most popular game is Sudoku. After I tried some of its puzzles, I was not quite happy with the tedious marking and how solving the challenging puzzle is more about applying the techniques. My first experience with Nurikabe is not from the puzzle book but from Nurikabe World. There are many puzzle video games adapted from puzzle books that do not utilize the medium to its fullest. Nurikabe World is one of the good example that simply drew me in because of how it is unfolding as I am solving the puzzle. It does help that the theme of island and river fit so well despite the game name is about the wall. It feels a bit like Minesweeper at how you remove and mark the squares but you are actually dividing the islands by digging the river around them. Incredible puzzles, great introduction to the genre, the slow increasing difficulty worked very well.

Exactly what it says. I really like it when puzzle games get into this flowy state of subconscious solving, rather than pushing my brain to its limits to try to find the solution.

This is quite the ideal chill puzzle game...hope there might be a sequel or additional levels in the works

A fantastic rendition of the classic Nurikabe puzzle, offering multiple campaigns alongside daily and endless puzzles. The interface is polished, and the graphics and music are simply beautiful. An excellent game that's hard to put down!
