O.D.T.: Escape... Or Die Trying

This is not a true review of the game, but a warning as to the quality of this particular re-release of it. O.D.T itself is what I would call a sort of hidden gem of the early 3D PC/PS1(/N64) library, but this re-release is a travesty for the simple fact that the PC version within this re-release does not have any music. The music is a huge part of building the atmosphere of O.D.T, and how the publishers managed to ♥♥♥♥ this simple thing up so badly is abhorrent. Shame on you for this, Piko Interactive, and shame on you for ignoring all attempts at reasonable communication through your website and social media accounts, and making no effort whatsoever to play-test or fix your screw up. Thankfully, the PSX version is also included, and that one DOES have music, but obviously that's a downgrade for numerous reasons. If you want to play O.D.T as it was on the PS1, this'll do ya, but that's no excuse for the screwed up PC version. You'd think they would have noticed something amiss, but what can you expect when dealing with publishers who don't care about games or customers? I have experienced severe crashes constantly for this port. The PC port especially. I have lost countless amounts of progress due to how terrible this port is. Do not get it. Save your money. Emulate it if you can. It is extremely bug riddled. I've put at least 20 hours into this game even though Steam doesn't update it properly. I've had the game outright glitch my character into their standing animation just by using melee attacks to break a crate. This even extends to breakable walls. I can't even move. I'm softlocked. It will randomly crash if a turret locks on and fires at you. It will randomly crash if you look at it funny. There's absolutely no telling when it will crash. I have never written a review for a game before...but this one deserves a special mention. This port is absolutely ♥♥♥♥. I do not recommend you waste your time or money on it. Get the GOG version instead. From what I hear the music actually works. It's nowhere as buggy.

O.D.T.: Escape... Or Die Trying (so, Or Die Trying Escape Or Die Trying???) is an ancient French console (Playstation 1) ported third person platformer/shooter from 1998. It's a whopping 25 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge. Gameplay consists of lightweight platforming, shooting, and going to see your optometrist because this is such a janky gaming experience with blurry ugly graphics that you'll think your eyes are busted. There's a loose kind of sci-fi-ish theme but it's pretty garbage. Psygnosis really were a one-hit-wonder with Lemmings, and this very poor console game is a shining example of how far they fell. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. This is a classic from my childhood. It's nice to finally have it on steam. However, this contains two versions of the game: the pc port and an emulated PSone version. The PC port lacks music for some reason, which I feel makes it unplayable. I don't know if this is like a Quake 1/2 problem where the CD needs to be in the disc drive or if there's missing files. Otherwise, the PSone version works just fine but requires some rebinding and you have to use its save states to save.
