LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE: On a whim, a friend was reminded of this game and we were amazed to find it on steam. However, I kid you not, we made it through the tutorial, made it to the world selection room, and was immediately hard locked when we jumped into the portal was a large message in yellow text saying we had to "purchase a legal copy of Ominous Horizons" after having just bought it. Absolutely wild.

A total nostalgia trip. The mechanics are of the era and despite everything it's wildly entertaining. I used watch my dad play this when it came out so it's been nice to finally play myself after all this time.

SEE COMMENTS ON GRAPHICS AND PLAYABILITY BELOW I used to play this game before it was released on Steam and was excited to find that it had been re-released. While this game doesn't crack my top 10 of all time, I have a special place for this game since it was one of the first shooters I played. The game plays much like a Christian version of Doom, having a few different weapons and abilities you can switch between as you make your way through multiple levels. Nothing about the game is particularly groundbreaking, with a limited enemy pool, large areas that can sometimes lack clear purpose, and a very minimal storyline. However, the gameplay is enjoyable with the controls and design being easy to grasp. Personally, I enjoy the Christian themes in the game (even though they are a little forced for story purposes), but the references can be very heavy handed given that this game was one of the Christian shooter games of its day. If you are looking for a quick, fun, low pressure shooter game, then this game is a solid choice and I would recommend the game. Extremely buggy. If you try to turn down the game music it turns down all of the sound. In the later levels i was crashing literally ever minute for awhile. It was frustrating but i finished for nostalgia sake.

What an amazing nostalgia trip. I remember getting this game as a 9 year old Christian boy and finding it too difficult and complicated to finish but seeing it again now I'm far more impressed for how good it plays and looks for something from 2001.
