About Once More

There exists a library where books rest without words. Instead, those who read these books see what the authors themselves imagined. It is within this Great Library that the protagonist, Felix, makes a deal with the reaper Shifa: if he can show her the difference between romance in the worlds of fiction she's lived through, and how romance plays out in reality, she'll allow him to add a single book to the Library's collection.
With a newfound hope, Felix accepts the deal so that he can add a single book to the library: the diary of his late girlfriend.
Will he move on and find a new partner, or will he find the ending he's always wanted for himself?
The choice will be yours as you explore the lives of students at Lilia Matsumoto University to satisfy the reaper watching over your life, all so you can find true love! Though, that's only if you make the best choices, and being able to trade your lifespan for all the knowledge in the universe might not be the best idea...
In Once More, you'll be able to foster relationships and maybe fall in love (or out of love!) depending on how you interact with the characters. Unfortunately, love takes work, and Felix is going to have to prove his love is true if he wants to reclaim the happiness he once lost.
Characters

You'll be wearing the shoes of Felix, our unlucky protagonist who has made a deal with death itself. Whether or not he's able to move on and reclaim the happiness he once held is entirely up to you, so please take good care of him. His personality is very subdued, but if you can help him meet the right people he may just find himself again.

Shifa is a reaper who works in the Great Library, where she categorizes every text written throughout history. Her tendency to act like the main character of the last book she read comes from her current dilemma of being unable to tell fiction from reality, the former of which is her only understanding of Felix's world.

Mima used to be Felix's girlfriend, but a great tragedy separated them. In order to reclaim the future he never got to have with her, Felix has decided to make a deal with the reaper Shifa in order to one day see her again should he be unable to move on. She was the type of girl who was always smiling, and had a big impact on Felix's life.

Yuria grew up playing piano and has a tendency to push others away when they try to get close to her. Even though she's not easy to get along with at first, hidden underneath her ice cold exterior is an incredibly caring girl. Though depending on who you ask, she's less of an icy queen and more of an awkward girl.

Cami is a film student and is a super upbeat girl who's always willing to help others if she's able to. Her passion for film is what motivates her as she sets out to find her own goals in life, even if hindered by her past ones. She seems to shine when she's in front of the camera, but for some reason she prefers to stay behind it.

Nia is the childhood friend of Felix and has a passion for making games. While she tends to make jokes at Felix's expense, she does have a serious side to her that comes out when she's passionate about something, or someone. Her current AI project has her overextended, perhaps you can lend her a hand?

Okay, so this game is currently in early access, with only about 25% done as the developers stated, and I'll take that into account. I had a fun time with the game. The characters end up being pretty developed and likable, and Felix strayed a bit further from just being that "one generic male MC in a dating game", pushing out his personal troubles and how he's dealing with them, something that could happen to any one of us. That's the main basis of the story - him coping with losing his girlfriend who meant a lot to him, and he being given another chance to see her by building up relationships with other people and writing them in a diary. That's all I'll say for now.
Pros

Visually, I thought the game to look pleasing. The character designs, CGs and UI, while may being a tad bit generic, are pretty great in their own right especially for an indie effort. I wasn't a big fan of the environment art though, it was pretty empty and really standard for a VN, but I guess it's trying to convey an everyday life.
I liked the music too, there were some tracks that I may just boot up in the future to listen to. The composers did a good job composing an OST that comp…5 found this helpful
Follow Far2close - Visual Novel Playthroughs Curator Page Once More Developer: Malheur Games Publisher: Malheur Games Pros: 1. I found the plot to be quite interesting utilizing the memories of Mima holding back Felix and how with the Library of Alexandria being a stepping stone in order for Felix to move on. Just the way it handles grief, depression, and how to get out of it is done well. Both endings handle it properly with the good ending going with
Felix being happy that he can start with Nia and he can put Mima to rest, even if will be a challenge during the relationship. The same goes for the bad ending when Felix can't properly move on and the surrogate being extremely similar to Mima, eventually driving Felix to the deep end.
2. The characters are great even with the supporting characters such as Shifa and Mr. Merganser being extremely important in Felix's development. Without Shifa, he would not have the driving force to move on, without Mr. Merganser, he would not have developed a better understanding with Cami. Nia's character is that usual childhood friend theme, but…2 found this helpful
<-- Review written for 3 Point Play -->
"Write the ending you've always deserved in life" Once More is a western VN featuring high quality assets, professional voice acting (in english) and a pretty unique story. I feel like I'm using the word "unique" a lot lately in my reviews, so let's expand a bit on what does "unique" means for Once More's story:

It features a blonde reaper as a potential love interest.
The bear guy from Full Metal Panic Fumoffu (and Amagi Brilliant Park) is a character and he runs a library.
It features a library.
I'm not sure how much could I explain about the story without spoiling it. But you're bound to find out about this like 15 min into the game, so, the argument is based on our main character no-clipping into the Library of Alexandria, a place in which there are (obviously) a lot of books (yet they're not scrolls but actual modern-day books as we know them today) which allow their reader to experience something based on their contents... in exchange for the pleasure, you'll be paying with time of your life based on the amount of time yo…2 found this helpful
The story was filled with twists and turn hyping up player till the end of each route, during the time i played this it made me question if i took the bad end or good end which was both exciting and stressful. The visuals, script writing and ost were beautifully made its suites the characters and scenes, my only complain is that some times the music overlaps with each scene if you play next part a bit to fast. Also as off posting this review ( April 26, 2024) the Yuria route is a bit bugged some text lines are doubled or missing some words and letters. Some of the characters also mysteriously disappear if you load a save file. Over all i love the rich story would recommend a play thru <3.
