[h2]The Cutest Game That Kicked My Ass[/h2] Don't be fooled by the innocent look - this game is much more devilish than it may seem at first. Everything is fine and dandy until you reach the final race. That's where the game's main challenge lies. If you want to complete it, you'll have to try again and again, quite a few times, before finally succeeding. I'm exactly the type of audience this game is aimed at. I absolutely love true roguelikes - by that I mean games where everything resets with each run. There is no meta-progression. The only things you carry over are your own knowledge, skill, and experience. Because of that, this game can proudly stand alongside other true roguelikes (that I have played) such as Spelunky, Devil Daggers, and Hyper Demon. There are also upgrades that you can buy before each race. To be honest, I didn't notice any significant difference in gameplay when purchasing them. Usually, I wouldn't buy anything during the first three races and would only purchase two or three upgrades before the final race. However, I actually have no idea whether upgrades stack. It would make sense if they did, since you can collect enough coins to afford all three upgrad…

A fun little game (that is also hard to win!) The controls are a bit hard, but rewarding when figured out. The terrain can be quite unforgiving, but that's part of the challenge.

This game has a really satisfying learning curve, Once you figure out when to turn to shell the game becomes very easy, but still i played it a few more times just to see how fast i can go. really fun short game

Controls are good for a free momentum based runner and the "guess how much I love you" artstyle & watercolours are well presented & sick but there is little variety in powerups and the level design can heavily favour the NPC's over yourself with each random generation, causing essentially instant failure when it doesnt swing your way. As a free download & project by a group of students from DADIU, Once Upon a Shell is worth a playtest but you should disregard thoughts for long term play (more than an hour) as cracks & minor grievences start to show. Personal gripes include: The tutorial introduction playing after each run with no swift ability to skip or disable. Occasional Terrain Generation not favoring the player movement & controls. Launching the game initiates a page turning animation that's full of crazy screen flashes. Player controls can at times feel beyond floaty and unintuitive to the flow of the areas. [b]As a free demo Once Upon a Shell is fine but if you want a paid and further fleshed out version of the gameplay with longer development the closest title I've found is "Haste".[/b]
