About "Otherworldly: Beginning of the Rift" Pre-Alpha

Story

In 2040, reality as we know it undergoes profound changes. In a world where parallel dimensions have become part of everyday life, you are a brave explorer tasked with uncovering the mysteries of these enigmatic worlds.

Working for a global research laboratory founded in the 1990s, your mission is to collect and decipher mysterious recordings on tapes scattered across various parallel worlds. Each tape not only brings monetary rewards but also a deeper understanding of the hidden layers of existence.

To successfully complete your missions, you must also use special devices to measure the parameters of different worlds — temperature, radiation levels, air quality, and electromagnetic fields (EMF). These indicators will help you better understand which parallel world you have encountered and how safe it is for your stay.

But be cautious — further immersion into these alternate realities may lead to unforeseen events that could change the course of your mission and the fate of humanity.

Gameplay Elements

  • Collecting Tapes: While exploring parallel worlds, you will find tapes containing encrypted data, holding crucial information about each dimension. Your task is to decode these recordings and extract valuable knowledge.
  • Using Devices: You are equipped with tools to measure temperature, radiation, air purity, and EMF. Each of these parameters provides insight into how habitable or dangerous the current world is and helps in identifying its nature.
  • Managing Needs: To survive, you must monitor your character’s basic needs: hunger, thirst, health, and time. To maintain your well-being, you can purchase food, water, and other resources using the money you earn.
  • Analyzing Parallel Worlds: Your success in the game depends on how accurately you can determine which world you are dealing with based on data from the devices. Correct identifications earn you rewards, while mistakes can lead to resource loss.
  • Dangers of Alternate Realities: Some worlds can be extremely hazardous, and staying in them without proper preparation can have severe consequences for your character. You must always be ready to avoid fatal errors.

This looks promising until you start it up and you realise most of the features are completely missing. This means that both the screenshots and the videos (trailers) are completely misleading. I initially thought it was my fault as I failed to find out how to make the car appear (there is an achievement for that) or change the settings and travel to several different planets (or parallel universes). An update that was released 2 weeks ago, however, confirms the missing features (including a story mode) will only arrive in 2025. What was the point of releasing this product in its current state back in September, then? You play as a scientist who is meant to travel to other locations. We start out in a garage with a teleportation device in the corner. Interacting with its panel takes us to another location (universe?) but we immediately die in case we haven't picked up the HEV suit. I'm calling it HEV as the sound effect for the interactions is identical to Half Life 2. But what do we find there? Corridors and rooms. No enemies and only cans (of food?) to pick up. I headed back and decided to sit down in front of the computer in the garage. Now, the only way to stand up and leave…

""Otherworldly: Beginning of the Rift" Pre-Alpha" is an overly ambitious attempt to make a first person puzzle adventure game, but it seems to be deep in development hell, having not really been updated since the game launched a couple of months ago. The game is absolutely an unpolished, clunky mess, and the question about whether the developers created all the game assets is prominent... this looks a lot like an asset flip to me. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. It's free for now, but the developer intends to charge for this if it ever leaves Early Access... but considering the poor public reception, it's likely this will not be one of the 25% of games that ever gets finished and leaves Early Access. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game …

the idea was good but it was so buggy for me. after i learn how to play objects were glitched for me and i couldnt pick them up. sometimes i couldnt exit from computer and when ever i change the language from German to English, it would automatically back to German again. overall if you fix bugs i will come again and test and maybe make a video about it

It seems like an awesome Idea but it is very much Unfinished, Waiting on An Update that can fix the bugs that the game is suffering from, Objects glitching, cant leave the PC, language bugs out stays in german. Issues with changing of sensitivity, outside of bugs that basically force you to alt+F4 just to get back to playing its a pretty cool game

The atmosphere and idea of exploring different worlds is interesting at first, but the experience feels very rough and unfinished. Gameplay systems are basic and don’t evolve much, which makes exploration quickly lose its impact. On top of that, the achievement system is broken: several achievements are currently unobtainable and one is bugged, making full completion impossible. For players who enjoy finishing games properly, this completely ruins the experience. Some moments feel more like a tech demo than a real playable loop, with limited depth and repetitive actions. Achievements: • The fast ones take only a few minutes • The longer ones are currently impossible to complete due to bugs Verdict: Negative — interesting concept, but broken progression and very shallow gameplay make it hard to recommend in its current state.
