Outbreak: The New Nightmare is a deliberately old-school survival horror experience that positions itself as a tribute to the genre’s late-1990s roots. From its fixed camera angles to its restrictive inventory system, the game makes it clear that it is less interested in modern conveniences and more focused on recreating the tension, vulnerability, and methodical pacing that defined early survival horror. Rather than reinventing the formula, it commits to scarcity, isolation, and pressure, asking players to survive not through firepower but through careful decision-making. The setting places players in a city already lost to infection, where emergency services have collapsed and the remaining survivors are trapped in hostile, claustrophobic locations. Environments such as hospitals, offices, and urban interiors are designed to feel oppressive, emphasizing narrow corridors, poor visibility, and constant threat. The atmosphere relies heavily on limitation—limited visibility, limited movement freedom, and limited resources—to create unease rather tha…2 found this helpful
Nightmare chews my brain like popcorn, I am saveless zombie in love. Let it lag, I enjoy being dumb dinner for bugs.1 found this helpful
Fundamentals are there but requires polish. Level designs for the campaign is sufficient enough but hampered by many it's camera angles - which was the main difficulty of the game, not the zombies or special infected. 5/10 game. Solid 2 hours of fun with friends to mess around with it. That is the only reason why I recommend it - with friends only.1 found this helpful
All the "Outbreak" games suck. This one is no exception; I've had more fun going to the bathroom than playing this.
I can appreciate what they were trying to go for here. You can feel the parts of the game that are supposed to be RE:Outbreak. But uh... Everything about the game is kinda awful. It all feels janky and horrible, and the animations and lighting are just terrible. Even the AI's movement is just so danm janky.
This is the most stupid controller navigation system I have ever experienced. Its only excuse is that it is an old game.
