Outland is a visually striking Metroidvania platformer that nails its core light/dark color-switching mechanic — toggling between red and blue to match or counter enemies adds a satisfying layer of complexity that evolves nicely throughout the game. The backgrounds are gorgeous, the soundtrack fits each environment well, and the boss fights are genuinely epic highlights. That said, the game does show its weaknesses: the levels start to blend together after a while, the story is forgettable, and the linear structure feels at odds with the Metroidvania label. The bullet-hell sections can get visually chaotic to the point of confusion, and keyboard controls leave something to be desired. Still, if you enjoy tight platforming with a clever gimmick that keeps building on itself, Outland is worth picking up — especially at its low price point.

I quit at the final boss. I really love the platforming and hate the combat, so the game goes from good to progressively worse and worse as combat becomes a bigger portion of the gameplay. I'm so frustrated and hate that I'm quitting right at the finish line but it's just not worth it and I need to take all my anger out on something.

Wonderful puzzle gameplay. I greatly enjoy it. Really interested in the CO-OP option, so glad they included it!
