Pascal's Requiem

This game is very well done. It's a 3-hour RPG campaign with a decent soundtrack and graphics. The story is a bit bare-bones, but it will send you on a fun little adventure with some time travel thrown in. I was genuinely impressed with how well the 3D and 2D graphics mesh together. The main draw here is that instead of a generic turn-based system, each skill and enemy attack is a little minigame. While it feels novel in the beginning, it does quickly get a bit frustrating. Enemies are a bit hard to avoid, but run works fairly well. Most minigames have a bit of a trick to them, and once you figure it out, you can breeze through fights. It's not a format I would want to play a 40+ hour campaign in, but it works well for a 3h one. There are some visual glitches here and there, mainly with the basic attack bar colours not properly reflecting the bad/good/perfect score, but nothing that makes the game unplayable. On the Steam Deck, some minigames seemed to require double-pressing the buttons and were better to do with the D-Pad than the joysticks.

Free Turn Based JRPG that goes from 0 to time travel rather quickly. There are a lot of leaps in logic and story concepts that just drag you along without really explaining themselves, the narrative threads they set up, the people involved, or the conclusions they reach. It's a weird one and the ending I got didn't really satisfy. They seem to aim for a 2nd playthrough that requires you to not try to unlock all your memories which feels a bit counterintuitive and I'm not sure its worth it honestly. Pros: Very novel use of turn based combat. It is a pretty bite sized JRPG that will take you about 2 to 4 hours depending. Story dives into weird. You'll either stick along for the ride or just lose interest. It has its tropes but I respect what they're going for to an extent. Controller Support Decent Settings Options Okay Performance. Light recommend. This is free but still, it takes up your time and I'd say this is a decent use of it if you want to play something simple. The sprites remind me of paper mario but the 2.5D backdrops are ugly and, in the forest, for example, sometimes the foreground obscures your view of Pascal. The combat is great, made up of a bunch of mini games, 2 per enemy (for about 30 or 40 total). Story was meh and map needs work, but it's still fun.

I gotten to the final boss and I couldn't take it anymore. Aside from not being that invested in the story after not being able to follow the first flashback and didn't really like the feeling when I walk around the world, I didn't enjoy the combat at all. Dodging attacks was okay for the most part, especially the attack where I roam freely. However, any attack that involves timing was frustrating to time correctly and I swear I was getting bads with a full,green charge bar for the basic attack. I know the final boss doesn't really have the timing attack I hated but I just didn't care anymore.
