Tried it out a while back during a free week. Functionally it is a cool game, but they are trying to leach money out of the player base with plot tokens that you have to continue to buy every month. There is not an alternative to this. If they did something like rust, where you have to keep a supply closed stocked, it would be fine. If they just sold cosmetics, they would probably make more money with the continual player base that gets sucked into grinding out games like this. I really can't say much about the game, because I spend most part of my play time in the character creation, which is really nice. But then comes the rude awakening as soon as we pick up the first wood and stone and open that hammer. Wham...you need a token for your land plot to keep it alive. Wonderful, a different name for a subscription model.....well, that did it for me right there and I decided NOT to play this game any further, before I let it happen to get lured into yet another money pit. So I just accept the loss of the purchase price and add Pax Dei to the moth ball chest on the attic, where it will rotten and get forgotten like all those other money pits publishers try to rip of people these days.3 found this helpful
I loved this game but the more time passes the less i can recommend it. This went from a beautiful concept of a world fully made by the players with every town being unique and every interaction feeling genuine, to still this somewhat but now with much more money involved. You cant even keep your own house anymore without a sub. I'll always remember this game fondly as another great concept that got ruined with subscriptions before it could really get off the ground. Great game but not for everybody! This game, as it sits at this moment is more a sandbox game for building your own homestead. Graphics and enviorment is beautifully done but there is a lack of purpose other than leveling your crafts and skills by grinding/harvesting wood and ore and you need a lot of it! The last update is a good step in the right direction to fix that tho (achievement/reward system). If you love spending your time building your prefect home and exploring the map (walking as no mounts exist for now) go for it, the map is HUGE! if you want quests, NPC's and a more MMORPG feeling, this is not for you. As to the monthly fee, it sucks because i bought the game in development as a founder with the promise of a plot, and now you need a monthly fee to be able to build your home. On the other hand it doe help to keep a lot of empty plot and clutter out of the game and you can play for free if you use a plot from a clan/guild. That said, the monthly costs are not that much, so if you play with some friends clan up and have one of you pay for a plot, set it as a guild usage so everyone can use it and split the costs, it comes down to a couple of euro's/dollars a mon…1 found this helpful
I have not experienced everything the game has to offer, at 40 hours in I have only briefly left my home province of Kerys. There is still group PvE and PvP content that I also have not been part of yet. I was sceptical to pick up the game as reviews are mixed at the moment, but I decided to pull the trigger and I am very glad I did. If you enjoy games like OSRS, Valheim, Minecraft or Vintage Story then I think you will enjoy this game. Visually the game is beautiful, especially when you see all the amazing structures, castles, houses and villages players have built that look like they are baked in. The building is very intuitive, similar to Valheim, with the need for supporting build pieces. The levelling system is similar to OSRS, each tier of equipment needs a certain skill level to unlock. It is a grind. Things will take a while to get established, but speak to your neighbours and the 50 wrought iron nails you need for a new crafting bench will turn up, or you'll travel 30 IRL minutes to meet someone who can craft you some sconces for your house.
